JP Staples is his name and you can catch him crying about how his life was ruined on Fox News next week. He fucked around and found out. Now suck it up, buttercup. 🤡
Wait people really think the area around the United Center is a danger zone? Lol. What are y’all like 22 years old? That area is like a country club compared to what it was in the 80’s and 90’s.
When your boy in town from Paris wants to grab something to eat that he can’t get back home you head directly to Little Village. 25th and Whipple to be exact.

I’ve tweeted it before and I’ll tweet it again. Chicago has perfected fries in a way few places have. While fresh cut fries weren’t born here per se they’re def a part of the city’s food resume. Especially the type from hot dog stands like Redhot Ranch, Gene & Jude’s, Jimmys etc.
Most gyro meat in Chicago all comes from the same factory. But there’s a few spots doing homemade and those are the ones I recommend.
Charcoal Flame (pork)
It’s Greek 2 U (pork)
Andros Taverna (pork)
Nick’s Drive-In (lamb / beef)
Backyard Grill (lamb / beef)
I live within walking distance of a police station in Logan Square where there’s a large group of migrants and my life hasn’t been effected in any way whatsoever. It takes a real piece of shit to complain about them from another state.
Why do old white men from the suburbs insist on letting everyone know they won’t be coming back to Chicago when nobody asked them to come in the first place?
with Milwaukee in the news this week more than possibly any other time in history, let’s try something out
please share a story, photo, video, memory or experience of our city so that we can let folks know about ourselves on our own terms
Today was one of them days that makes it damn near impossible to ever consider leaving Chicago. It’s not for everybody but for some of us it’s everything.
It’s incredible how nice it gets as soon as you exit Indiana into Michigan on 94. Literally the second you cross state lines it goes from grey and gloomy to bright and green. Pretty funny.
The best falafel sandwich in Chicagoland is found in the parking lot of the Chicago Ridge Mall at falafel abdu & hamouda. Palestinian owned as Cook County is home to the largest Palestinian population in the country.
Bella Notte joins Cooper’s Hawk and Gordon Ramsey’s in relocating to the suburbs. Can you guess what they all have in common, aside from the same food supplier?
Answer: Uninspiring menus with mediocre food. End of story.
Just weeks before its 28th anniversary, Bella Notte, a long-standing Italian restaurant in the city, has announced its closure in Chicago and relocation to Downers Grove.
You know about the shrimp spot on the river but what about Hienie’s at 104th + Torrence? Personally I prefer it. Shrimps are fried in tallow and the breading gets extra crisp and they sell QP’s for $5.50 w/ fries and their bright orange and vinegar heavy hot sauce - also iconic.
Gyro Grilled Cheese remains an under-appreciated Chicago original and it’s one that’s nearing extinction. Only a few can still be found in the wild. This one is from Garfield Gyros on the border of West Englewood / Back of the Yards.
This latest police shooting in Chicago is easily avoided by not pulling people over for stupid shit like a seatbelt being unbuckled. It’s safer for both the public and police officers not to bother with harmless stuff like that.
Many of Chicago’s regional dishes have already gone national but just like with pizza there’s two styles of Chicago dogs. I prefer the lesser known made with a natural casing Vienna Beef in a steamed bun with mustard, onion, relish, and sport peppers wrapped with fresh cut fries.
While Buffalo wings are now a ubiquitous app all over the country, not every regional food goes national. What cuisine from YOUR region do you most want to share with the country/world?
Taco de Cabeza at Birrieria Estilo Jalisco on Western in Logan Square. Not just the best taco on the block but one of the best tacos in town.

I’ve traveled the world and every single country I’ve visited had some sort of ode to Chicago be it a restaurant, clothing store etc. People love when I tell them I’m from Chicago. We are truly a world class city despite what MAGA Fox News types try to tell the rest of the world.
Honestly I’d be fine if both sides of the Chicago twitter discourse went away for a little while. No more tweets about tavern thin pizza, Malort, concrete beaches or any of the stuff people post mostly for engagement.
Taqueria Zacatacana is now doing handmade tortillas on Tuesdays and they certainly elevate what was already one of the better steak tacos in town.

Michael Bell (also white) was stalked from a Kenosha (WI) bar to his home where he was killed in front of his mom and sister. The cop that killed him still works there, but his partner committed suicide. Still the shadiest police murder case I’ve followed.
New neighborhood taco spot with lots of potential at 2937 W Armitage. Tacote as it’s called is a copy cat of a popular Norteno chain with locations in Mexico and Texas called Tacotote. Apparently the owner worked for them and now he’s doing his own thing here in Logan Square.
I just dropped $50 on berries from Mick Klug Farm and I couldn’t be happier with the purchase. Whether that’s double or triple the cost of a corporate chain these taste way better and are limited in availability so the splurge is well worth it. Now off to the craft cannabis spot.
Yesterday was one of those days in Chicago that I point to when describing what makes it a world class city. Concerts at Wrigley and Soldier Field, festivals in bloom, and an electricity in the air you won’t find everywhere. Those that say our city is done don’t get out much.
Asian Cuisine Express is the busiest I’ve ever seen it to where they added a second trompo recently and there’s two guys selling paletas to the crowd waiting outside. These guys are headed for big things.

Chicago is absolutely rocking this weekend. We’ve entered that period on the calendar where it’s one of the best cities in the world. From Taylor Swift to Hot Dog Fest to the James Beard Awards and so forth.

Wood grilled (mesquite and oak) carne asada at Manchamanteles in Bucktown. Served with thick and warm corn tortillas. This place reminds me of some the Mexican restaurants of the 80’s and 90’s and I don’t mean that as an insult. Complete details next week.
Thread: In honor of
#NationalHotDogMonth
each day through the end of July I’m going to share some of my favorite hot dogs from the worlds greatest hot dog eating nation.
Day 1: Char Dog from Fatso’s Last Stand (Chicago, IL). No explanation necessary.
Cafecito still putting out a surprisingly solid Cuban sandwich - most of them outside of certain areas in Florida are average at best. The key to ordering here or anywhere is to get it double pressed so that the bread gets extra golden and the cheese turns to molten.
Not a fan of In-N-Out but the notion they wouldn’t do good in Chicago bc we have good food is nothing more than a homer opinion. Chicago is in the United States where chain food thrives. Doesn’t matter if it’s Portillo’s or Taco Bell or Subway or In-N-Out etc.
I’ll always remember where I was when yesterday’s news broke - I was eating the best tacos in Chicago. If you know you know and if you don’t know then please don’t go making unwarranted claims about some other spot.

Best Friday Fish Fry in Chicago? Dry Chili Fish Filet at China Wok to start the weekend (BYOB). Served alongside another delicious house special, the “Szechuan Fish Casserole” (2485 N Clark).
I can’t stress this enough when it comes to finding good food - start by seeking out a certain dish rather than an entire cuisine. If you really love Mexican food you would know it’s very regional and the best restaurants are regional as they specialize in specific things.
Well I said I was going to post a thread of every serving of pasta I ate on my trip to Italy so let’s get it going with this “Pasta Puttanesca” from the United Lounge at O’Hare where we’re waiting for a screw to be replaced for our plane to Milan.
Late breaking news on a Sunday … Dry Chili Fish Filet from New China Station can now be found at China Wok on Clark in Lincoln Park (same owner). The menu looked similar and had dry chili fish listed as a house speciality so I got it and I knew this was it as soon as it arrived!
Doner Kebab is to Europe as tacos are to North America (the U.S. and Mexico anyway). You’re never far from one. Gotta get my fix anytime I’m over here bc it’s non existent back home and yeah I know about that bar in Avondale, that ain’t it.
Top Five Fresh Cut Fries in the Chi*
5) Fatso’s Last Stand
4) Redhot Ranch
3) Jimmy’s Red Hots
2) Top Notch Beefburgers
1) Mr. D’s Shish-Kebobs
* The Hot Dog / Hamburger / Italian Beef stand edition but please note all the fresh cut fries at the Chicago style stands are good.

Every national article on Italian beef fails to address the fact that most spots use bagged beef, which is why most Italian beef is mediocre at best. But the spots that make it from scratch are special and deserve the love that Italian beef has gotten in part from The Bear.
Not once while in Europe did I have any type of heartburn whatsoever despite the fact I ate more over there than I normally do here. But as soon as I got back to States and ate a couple of things I felt some heartburn coming on. I never get it in Asia either. What’s in our food?
Putting together a new best sandwiches in the city list since it’s been a minute but this time I’m separating them into two categories: old and new. Chicago is a great sandwich town so it makes sense since it’s tough to compare an old deli to a hip and trendy sandwich shop.
Aside from being extremely lame everyone from Chicago’s right wing Twitter clique has one other thing in common - none of them actually live in Chicago. They tweet from places like Utah, Colorado, Somonauk, and Southern Illinois where they have nothing else to do. Obsessed much?
Having visited virtually every hot dog stand in the city the fine folks
@ChicagoMag
asked me to pick the best. Not an easy feat but I felt qualified to pick ten spots that always do me right when I stop by for a hot dog. How many of them have you tried?
I have a hard time passing Taqueria Zacatacana and not stopping for some of the best steak tacos in town. Chunks of char grilled slightly chewy skirt steak in white corn tortillas with an extra spicy salsa verde.
#ChiTacoTour
@6figga_dilla
That’s awesome that they did that. People can’t have it both ways. You want to live in a world class city then you better accept happenings like Lolla and NASCAR etc. Otherwise there’s plenty of places where those type of events do not happen and never will.
ICYMI: My picks (on that particular day) for the best sandwiches in Chicago. Odds are one of your favorites isn’t listed. So many worthy spots but I tried make a diverse list in terms of styles. That said Ricobenes wouldn’t make my top 50 so don’t ask.
It’s saddening how much better the food is in Europe than it is back home. Almost every aspect of it too from the pricing to the ingredients to the restaurants themselves. The U.S food system is broken and we have our corporate overlords to blame.
Just how memorable is Tacos El Paisa in Mexico City? I knew this was it as soon as I saw the video, even without the old man / super taquero at the helm. We’re lucky to have a similar spot in Chicago with La Chaparrita Taqueria. Might get lunch there today.

Eating a Pat’s Pizza* al trunko with a can of RC by my side to finish up another wonderful weekend in the Windy City. Summer is coming.
*Pat’s in South Loop which isn’t quite to the level of Pat’s in LP but it’s somewhat similar as there’s a connection (blood not business).
Kie-Gol-Lanee is bringing its Oaxacan menu to Logan Square at 2901 W. Diversey. This will be at least the 4th Mexican restaurant to open on that corner. My guess is this one sticks around.
@minc798
If you’re in the south and there’s a restaurant attached to a gas station with a bunch of old timers sitting in the corner drinking coffee and chatting - you just know that shit’s gonna hit.
Join me for a ride on the Illinois Fried Chicken Trail. Featuring 15 places throughout the Land of Lincoln where crisp golden fried chicken is the specialty of the house.
