Great stuff from @NationalGallery. The ancient Greeks didn’t have a word for the colour ‘blue’ and ‘glas’ in Welsh can mean blue or green.
Why is blue called ‘blue’? 💙 As part of our 200th birthday celebrations, we invited @sophiasgaler to tell us more about the history of the word blue.

This is absolutely shocking, and to be happening at @cardiffuni a Russell Group university and in the Welsh capital does not bode well. The unravelling is fast, the rebuilding (if it comes) takes years.
A very grim day at Cardiff University. 400 jobs to go. Whole departments (including modern languages, nursing, music, religion, ancient history) to be axed.

A fascinating read from @artukdotorg. It strikes me that Brenda Chamberlain’s 1938 ‘Self-Portrait’ can be compared to Leonardo’s ‘Mona Lisa’ and her 1951 ‘Girl with Siamese Cat’ to his ‘Madonna & Child with Cat’ sketches.

@WriterHannahBT ‘Cornwall Birds’ photographed a lone swift spotted in Godrevy yesterday. Very beautiful but way too early. Has it blown in? Or has it somehow managed to overwinter here?

My friend Rachel’s very talented son Leo, composer and conductor, has painstakingly and masterfully produced this musical labour of love in honour of the fallen and the survivors of Auschwitz.
After 8 years of painstaking research, here is trailer for the @SkyUK documentary-film about my restorations of music written and performed in #Auschwitz performed by Constella Music. It'll air on Jan 20th at 9pm on Sky Arts, which is available to everyone on #Freeview.
