@TalesOfZoloft @Cbp76 Lewisham police station is built directly above the course of a culverted river. It underruns the front of the site, but even under the back, ground conditions would make a large cellar difficult to keep dry.

Who was already in the building? • Guests and staff at the acupuncture clinic on the ground floor. • Residents of other flats. • Potential house guests.

The point I'm getting at here is that some of what the police do may be statutorily mandated but socially unacceptable, and happens because the powers that be are stronger than the rest of society.
