@jbwhitmore @maw501 @_MathAcademy_ I suspect the problems are correlated... it's much easier to be motivated when you've got excellent (and correctly identified) scaffolding! And on the converse, it's easy to become demotivated when you're not learning effectively.

@_MathAcademy_ more days, more math, though some unevenness. up to total of 12,285 xp, aka - 1,136 / 10,950 xp for the year. Averaging ~34.4 xp / day.

@ptrschmdtnlsn Ahh, gotcha. Totally agreed then. The use of the word "shearing" threw me off because of the connotations of "shear planes"/etc (ie- planar boundaries)...

answered the survey too, but there was no good way to add the example pic here, or provide some of this detail especially on the laser cutting. let me know if this is helpful! i used to run a business doing a ton of in-house, high quality laser cutting with baltic birch, so i'm happy to talk more details if it's useful!

Does anyone have a "best" way of thinking about /deriving / remembering derivatives of inverse trig and inverse hyperbolic trig functions? The "forwards" derivations of the derivatives for regular trig functions are fine... implicit differentiation and "drawing the triangle" as below, but beyond that, I'm dissatisfied. 1) Even "forwards derivations" of most inverse hyperbolic trig functions are a bit of a pain because "drawing the triangle" often takes an extra step of running through the hyperbolic formula (x^2 - y^2 = 1). 2) Then the "backwards" motion of taking integrals that result in the inverse functions is... a pain. There's nothing about "-1/sqrt(1-x^2)" that _screams_ arccos to me, so I find the memorization annoying and unrewarding. What's the "Feynman" answer here? What's the deeper connection or framework that makes the various formulae "intuitively obvious"? @mhartl @ben_golub @exojason @justinskycak

@levelsio Just air them out until they stop smelling. You can also just get an @airthings and monitor VOC levels:
