i hate to break it to you guys but calling carmy “toxic” and a terrible person with irredeemable qualities isn’t valid criticism of his character! while i do think carmy hurts the people in his life due to his behavior and actions, its never done purposely, that isn’t toxic.

i hate how people think carmy’s biggest flaw is his mental health even though its clearly and always has been his avoidance. he avoided managing his personal and professional life and he avoided calling the fridge guy which inevitably sent him into that spiral once he realized+.

finally forming coherent thoughts! the bear season three spoilers ahead:.when it comes to carmy’s characterization this season, my opinions are sorta mixed. i understand what the writers were trying to do but at the same time feel disappointed at the execution of it. 1/7.

his breakdown in the walk in was possibly the most devastating thing he could’ve ever said about himself. the fact that they essentially made it all about claire when he didn’t say a bad thing about her feels like a punch to the stomach. whats even worse is that everyone berates+.

isolation has always been a part of carmy’s self sabotaging tendencies, i don’t think it’s realistic to want carmy solely focus on him healing and nothing/no one else because of 2 reasons.(1/6).

the one thing that i loved a lot about this show and carmy is how well they portrayed carmy’s mental illness, neurodivergency, and overall trauma. they didn’t villainize him for it, they didn’t baby him for it and they certainly didn’t excuse his behavior for it.

i just think that labeling him as a person who would be better by himself when we’ve all seen how much he isolated himself when he worked in EMP, being alone and cutting himself off from everyone has never helped anyone and that won’t change at the bear.

him for it just doesn’t help at all and goes against what they were trying to say in the previous seasons. i don’t know how much i can emphasize that i understand that they needed a reason for carmy to regress this season but once again, the execution of it was questionable. .

we all know carmy clings onto the past and claire represents that, yet i can’t help but feel like they completely dismissed the fact that mikey plays a big part in that as well. i’ve been waiting for carmy to verbally confirm that he blames himself for mikey’s death+.

and when he does, they don’t expand on it? i feel like im just repeating myself when it comes to great plot points but the delivery of it being disheartening. it’s very frustrating. on a more positive note, jeremy’s acting definitely helps a lot with what’s lacking from carmy.

how much he missed out on during renovations, he comes to this realization when he’s sees how unorganized everything is. its so weird to claim his panic attacks/mental health are his biggest flaws when there are other things he needs to work on.

when he confronts his abuser aka the asshole emp exec chef? when he shuts himself in the freezer in apologies? the entirety of tomorrow? he’s excellent, no notes! i’m sure with time i’ll grow to somewhat enjoy this season as it sits with me but hopefully more analyses to come 7/7.

also a lot of people tend to look over how much aa has helped carmy, him being able to talk about the nature of his relationship with mikey and how he views himself and his brother was huge, carmy being able to talk about how his family has effected him was also big.

why do you think we see him genuinely happy during family in braciole, why do you think we see the memory of him and mikey cooking before s1 ends? romantic or platonic, any relationship helps carmy immensely and wanting him to push that aside will only regress him even more (6/6).

carmy wanting to feel amusement and enjoyment was his way of saying that he wants to overcome that feeling of waiting for the good things in his life to be ruined, which brings me to my next reason. 2. having personal relationships won’t stop him from healing.

1. thats not how therapy/aa works.therapy does not fix you, it helps you reflect and helps you heal from what you’ve been through, grieving and healing isn’t a one way road you easily drive through and the bear has a great way of explaining that throughout the show.

thinking about when this pic went viral and jeremy said a lot of people were projecting on carmy and deciding who he was outside of the show based on this pic alone so it lead to him becoming protective of carmy 😭

besides the fact that “how can you love others when you dont love yourself” argument is just insanely regressive to anyone who struggles with their mental health, its just doesn’t apply to him, carmy loves and desires a healthy family, blood or not.

okay but on a real note, im sure both nat and mikey were both paternal figures for him and stepped up for carmy when donna wouldn’t, i think this scene is when carmy leaves to go work at emp and the fact nat is the only person saying good bye breaks my heart :(.

i really thought this season would be where we see him develop but it just seems like he keeps avoiding most of his problems instead of addressing them (e.g richie, claire, etc…) those emp flashbacks are definitely going to parallel to how he acts in present day at the bear.
