My mum explaining what it's like to have #Aphasia. I hope this helps the understanding that having difficulty with language after a stroke isn't any reflection on intelligence or all the amazing possibility in Stroke Recovery π #MoreThanAphasia #Patience #AphasiaAwarenessMonth

Heard yesterday that our poor accessibility experience with calling the DWP is going to be used as a training opportunity...so that feels like a win π #Aphasia
This is my #DWP face! After spending over 2 hrs on hold trying to sort something simple for mum. How can a "system" in place to support the vulnerable, sick and disabled be so completely inaccessible and ridiculous π #DWP #Stroke #Aphasia

What a powerful video π any sudden change in movement, speech, cognition etc should always be treated as an emergency. #Stroke #FAST
Stroke survivors share their stories and listen to the 999 calls that saved their lives. The first sign of a stroke might not seem like much. Any sign of a stroke is always an emergency. Face or Arm or Speech, at the first sign, itβs Time to call 999.

Today is #WorldStrokeDay2024 We share this photo as a reminder that #Stroke can affect anyone, anywhere at any age. Jan was on the beach in Mexico on 5th July 2005. 46, fit, healthy & enjoying her holiday. Seconds later she had collapsed on the beach & life forever changed.

This one really got me π₯Ή you can see the instant connection they made being #stroke survivors and dad's to similar age kids. So powerful to talk to someone who just gets it π #WorldStrokeDay
Adam and Nathan had never met before. But we brought them together on #WorldStrokeDay because both have survived a life-changing stroke. Nathan 3 months ago. Adam 2 years ago. Watch the full Strength Through Support video, here:

Emilia is one of our fantastic volunteers in the Weekly Volunteer Calls service π such a inspiring and kind woman who makes such a difference to people trying to find their way after #stroke we are so lucky to have her support π #WorldStrokeDay
Fran and Emilia had never met before. But we brought them together on #WorldStrokeDay because a stroke had robbed both of them of their ability to act creatively. Fran 3 months ago. Emilia 9 years ago. Watch the full Strength Through Support video, here:

Love thisπWhen we 1st met other Stroke Survivors & Carers it was the changing point in mum's recovery. She felt inspired & hopeful againπ We really encourage reaching out & find people who get it, whether that's social media/online, on the phone or at a group #WorldStrokeDay
Dionne and Sue had never met before. But when we brought them together for #WorldStrokeDay they bonded instantly over their shared 'trauma' of surviving a stroke. Dionne 3 months ago. Sue 2 years ago. Watch the full Strength Through Support video, here:

New TV Adπ I'll never forget seeing mum for the first time in hospital laying unconscious, with tubes &monitors everywhere. Terrifying. I knew instantly life had changed and had no idea what would happen next. We will always be grateful for the support of @TheStrokeAssoc π
Every day in the UK, over 240 people wake up after a stroke. Our new TV advert captures the life-changing impact a stroke can have on anyone, at any age, including children. Our charity is here to help you find your strength through recovery, no matter how long it takes.

It is incredibly unfortunate to have a #stroke but we are so grateful that @JanAphasia was able to get the best stroke treatment available in 2005 π it definitely saved enough of her brain to live a full and independent life.

Found this old notebook from 2005/2006π Blew my mind how much we relied on writing. Mum had no speech but could write a lot of keywords or draw little diagrams. We pieced together what she wanted to say. So much effort for us all. @JanAphasia you've come so farππ #Aphasia
