So here’s the pitch: I’m available for writing and reporting work, freelance + contract. I’ll be traveling around the states for a bit. I love telling good stories. I'll go on whatever adventure you need me to say yes to, and write it well. I received a Master’s in Positive Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania last year to keep writing about mental health, trauma and wellness responsibly + from a research-informed place. If you want to work together, hit me up. For the first time since I started working when I was 16, I seem to have a whole lotta free time.

When I became a manager in 2020, when everyone was burning out hard, I told myself I’d be the kind of mentor I needed when I was a young reporter. I loved getting to gently push people to their best potential, elevate the badass skills they already possessed, get them to see the genius they already have. I committed to making sure anyone in my sphere had the chance to be well—mentally + emotionally—so they can do well.

.@AlexCKaufman recently described my work as “eclectic, raw and unique,” which freaking made me cry, but I only got to put it out there bc HuffPost took a chance on me. And I’m forever grateful for that.

I listened to sexual assault survivors describe the impact Brett Kavanaugh’s hearing ; asked psychologists to explain the Black Lives Matter protests through the lens of racial trauma; spotlighted the battle medical workers faced at the height of the pandemic—when people were doubting the deaths were real.

HuffPost let my heart run wild: I wrote explicit directions to find the g-spot on a piece about vaginas, & about the over-sexualization of pro surfers; interviewed people born at a naked hippie camp in Kauai; explained why baby carrots are a lie; dove into the psychology of copycat mass shooting threats; wrote of the toll of Hawaii’s westernization on Native Hawaiians.

It's also no exaggeration to say I’ve written for (almost) every vertical of HuffPost. This forcibly taught me how to regularly switch writing and reporting styles, how to drum up pitches for just about any section, how to convince an editor to care about the weird things I deeply cared about, and how to care fiercely for the state of this country.

I’m not exaggerating when I say I grew up at HuffPost. I joined in 2013, when a recruiter found lil ‘ole me on Oahu’s North Shore + asked if I had interest in an “exciting new project” that was the Hawaii office. For the next decade, I said yes to whatever HuffPost had to throw at me. Luckily, it said yes to what I threw at it too.
