This was a fascinating feature to write. The return of life to the Don after centuries of industrialisation and pollution is a wonderful story of nature's forgiveness, but - as salmon numbers collapse across the North Atlantic - also a poignant reminder that it has limits.
Five years ago, salmon started being regularly spotted in the River Don for the first time in centuries š But since then, sightings have dwindled again. Whatās going on?

Am leading on national comms for this project but have attended courses. Kids described as ādifficultā in classrooms light up within minutes of getting outdoors. Pupils who donāt usually talk to each other become friends. Outdoor learning isnāt a privilege, itās a necessity.
Everyone should be able to feel immersed in wild nature and beautiful landscapes as a child. But not everyone gets to enjoy this basic right. England's National Parks are helping over 25,000 disadvantaged young people connect with nature. Find out more:
