Simple YTPs are so appealing to me. Like, no layers upon layers of edits or complex masking. Just loops, repeats, and pitch shifts. It reminds me that at its heart, everyone can make a YTP. Its all about the scrambling, not the sophistication.

You can make CD-i Link say "Thanksgiving" by taking his "Thanks!", fusing the G in "Ganon" with the KI in "kiss", trimming a bit of F in "for luck", cutting out the "ING" in "King", and stringing it all together!

As a YTP creator, your audience will not consist of 100% video editors. I doubt even 50% or 25%. That means you shouldn't always be afraid of your edits feeling subpar. First and foremost, your viewers are appreciative that you're entertaining them.

YTP sentence mixing is all phonetics, but with extra emphasis on vowel sounds.
For example: "Beer" has a diphthong. It starts with a long e sound that blends into a soft e. What other word uses a long and short e? "Bieber". You can also twist it and use "Bieber" to make "beer"!

If you're making a sentence mixing video from music, your life will be 100x easier if you separate the vocals from the instrumentals. If you don't have software that can do that, just search YouTube for both the acapella and the instrumental version of the song you're using.

Don't be afraid to experiment with your splicing, even if that splice will take a while to cobble together. If you believe in the end result, that it will be worthwhile and memorable, it doesn't matter how much time you invest into a two second word.

Your best YTPs come when you yourself are at your best. A confident, positive mindset yields more good results than any advanced editing.
A great way to get into the mood is with music. Listen to something that pumps you up and makes you feel like the best (which you are).

To make your sentences sound more natural, sometimes you should splice out the D in "and". Do so when the word following it begins with a stop consonant (B, K, G, P, T, D). When you leave them in, the plosives collide and it makes a sentence messy.

Adding ING to verbs to create progressive tense can be tricky. That syllable is generally uninflected so don't pull it from words like "thing". Also, some ING words will be more nasally and won't often be pronounced a full G (mocking, flogging).

Some of the best YTP humor comes from simple wordplay. You don't have to know how to splice to create magic; just make nonsensical sentences. Or sensical sentences that make no sense.

Start with your largest words first. Sometimes a sentence can live or die off the success of a specific word, and if you can't splice it, pivoting becomes more difficult.
You can then rethink your sentence without having invested too much this way.

There is a specific distortion sound that accompanies Mario's "No" on the QuebecGamers rip of Hotel Mario, and it can only be heard on that version. No matter how good today's and future rips become, that distortion turns that line into gold and cannot be beat.

YTP wouldn't have exploded like it did in '07 if not for QuebecGamers. Back then, downloading videos was inconsistent and hard to figure out for beginners, but QG had easy-to-download CD-i clips ripe for usage. That's why so many old YTPs used CD-i.

The length of a YTP means nothing. Don't go into a YTP thinking it's got to be five minutes or two minutes, or even one minute. Focus on the quality of your humor instead and the rest will come naturally.

One of the earliest YTP fads was challenging YouTube's "flagging" system by making a video of an inappropriate term or action on repeat. Every video was entitled "THIS VIDEO WILL BE FLAGGED". Like so:

Save for a select few, I can't think of anyone who can edit YTPs on a major studio level. So don't be flustered if your edits don't look as good or perfect. Remember, we're not filming Ben Hur; we're making Link say "f-luck!"

It is possible for a sentence mix to be "too good". Sometimes a splice is so clean it sounds like the speaker actually said it in the source material. As weird as it sounds, a sentence mix with a slight imperfection can sound better in a YTP and work better with jokes therein.

A lot of YTP edits you make don't require heavy thought. They're more natural. You feel them. You look or listen and think, "This belongs here." Be mindful of those moments because very often they are better than what your "plans" were.

There used to be YTP top ten monthly moments, which showcased what the creator thought were the best YTPs of the month. They were made by pimpsahoy1594 (now defunct) from 2007 to 2008 and then KevinTAckerman from 2008 to 2014. Great time capsules!

When 2008 rolled around I was dead focused on trying to be the best YTPer I could be. I put out as many videos as I could and even though I only had 150 or so subs, I appreciated every view and every comment.

Always work on your YTPs with headphones on. You will hear tiny idiosyncrasies you would have missed if you used speakers and you can also properly gauge the volume of each source you use.
