Lots of friendly faces and useful conversations with residents whose concerns include roadworks and parking in central Whitstable, anti-social behaviour, and the ongoing problem of sea sewage. As someone very involved in the local community, Valerie is really keen to address and follow up on these matters.

The truth about Labour's Budget and farmers The change announced in the Budget will not impact the majority of farmers. Estates worth up to £3 million could still be passed on by a couple completely free of inheritance tax. ✓ Where inheritance tax does apply, farmers will still pay 50% less inheritance tax than everyone else. Heirs can spread the payment over 10 years interest-free instead of having to pay it all at once. ✓ The policy is about protecting smaller family farms while ensuring the wealthiest landowners pay their fair share. Our public services need fixing and the wealthiest should be the ones who bear the greatest burden so we can do that. ✓ Farmers will benefit from £5 billion being invested into farming over the next two years - the largest amount ever directed towards sustainable food production in our country's history.

Our councillors attended the Remembrance Sunday event in the Buttermarket, the Cathedral and the High Street today. ‘They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning. We will remember them.’

@Dane4Wincheap has been working closely with the East Kent Health and Social Care Partnership over the past year to organise two ‘Winter Well’ events in the Canterbury district - details of which are below. Most importantly, they’re free to attend and offer a wide range of advice and support. Winter Well events: Saturday 26th October, 11am-2pm, at the Thanington Resource Centre, Canterbury Saturday 16th November, 11am-2pm at The Beaney, Canterbury 🧥Free coats and winter woolies to those who need them 👩⚕️Health and care experts on hand to answer questions ✅Oral health checks 📉Energy advice 💉Immunisation team on hand 🚌The NHS bus will be at the Thanington event 🎺The Salvation Army will be at the Beaney event ☕️Free drinks 🧑Benefit and housing advice 🫴Community and council officers on hand ℹ️Leaflets and information from local organisations including @FoodBankCBury Dane said: “Canterbury like most cities has areas of deprivation and poverty. I’ve always seen my role as a councillor to be one of helping people and making the community a better place to live, and I’ve made a point of getting out to the community and speaking with residents, letting them know what’s going on, and how I can help. “It can be difficult for residents to find out what’s going on and what help is available to them and these public events can help address that. “Not everyone has the internet or the time to wait for a phone call to be answered. We’ve had some leaflets and posters printed and I’ve been out delivering these. “We’re also contacting the homeless community so that they know about it and have the opportunity to attend. “I've been meeting with a great team who have organised Winter Well events before and their knowledge and enthusiasm is fantastic. Sophie MacKenzie from @canterburycc has been outstanding in helping to get things sorted out. Dane adds: “I hope to roll out this event over future years to other areas in the district, including Herne Bay and Sturry. There could also be smaller events held in local community centres.”
