I was absolutely honored to be invited to join the National School Choice Week rally on the statehouse steps as one of their guest speakers. As a mom of 2 kiddos - one with autism - I’ve experienced first hand the challenges of finding an educational environment that’s the right fit for my own kids. Private, homeschool, public - we’ve done them all at various times depending on my kids’ needs at the time. Adding on to that a multitude of educational therapy programs (OT, ST, PT, etc.). I’ve always been in favor of universal school choice and will continue to fight for it until every single child in South Carolina has access to the opportunities that are the best fit for their individual circumstances.
Yesterday @candacepcarroll gave a great speech on the steps of the statehouse about why school choice is important to she and her family. A few lines are included in the story linked here.

Hands down the best grassroots team in SC! 💪 From the Mountains to the Sea, our team crushed it on the phones 📞 and doors 🚪 today talking to family after family about universal school choice! We heard real stories from real individuals…who all had a few things in common: ❤️ they want the absolute best for their kids, grandkids, neighbor’s kids, etc. ❤️ they believe parents/guardians know best what kind of educational environment their child needs ❤️ they believe ALL kids, not just some kids, should have access to the educational environment that best fits their own needs It’s time, SC! Let’s make 2025 the year we pass universal school choice.

There are over 750k students in SC and Every. Single. One. Of. Them. deserves to have the educational opportunity that’s the best fit for their unique abilities…. Not just 15k (or 2%) of them as S 62 is currently written. The state Senate will continue to debate S 62 when they return to the statehouse this week. Encourage them to support expanding S 62 to universal school choice so every student in SC can thrive.

Happy First Day of SC legislative session to all who celebrate! 🎉 @AFPSCarolina’s top priorities for this session include but aren’t limited to: ✅ simplifying the tax code by creating a low personal income flat tax with a pathway to full elimination ✅ empowering families with universal school choice ✅ easing the burden on our business community via regulatory reform (energy regs, tort reform, etc.) With the strength of our grassroots, 2025 is set to be a transformative session for the state of SC, and we’re excited to get to work! 💪
