Anywho. Here’s some of my work recently. All achieved without using any oils, butters, or leave in creams. Shampoo, conditioner, styling products (typically gel), and a curly cut.
Y'all ever just root for random Black people in your head? Like I was driving earlier and saw a Black woman jogging, and I said out loud to myself, "Get it Black lady!" I'm not the only one, right?
We recently talked about the dangers of constantly pulling your hair back. Here’s an example of what mechanical damage looks like. This client has no chemical treatments or regular straightening, just constant ponytails bc of work. Gotta find alternatives.
Oils do not moisturize.
Oils to not seal in moisture.
Oils do not promote or aid in hair growth.
Oils do not help with dry scalp or other scalp concerns.
This applies to locs as well.
The sooner we learn this, the sooner we’ll all be free.🙏🏾
My good sis on the ticker tocker is always dropping gems and the girls stay mad. This what
@JenniferRoseNYC
has been talking about. Your hair is gonna grow no matter what. You’ll save lots of money and minimize confusion once you realize that.
Oil does not seal in moisture. Water will evaporate from your hair and scalp within 5-7 days whether or not you apply oils. Using oils just makes it harder to get water back into your hair.
I hope collectively we aren’t quick to buy products from an entertainer with no expertise on hair, but hesitant to pay for advice from licensed professionals. But that’s likely wishful thinking.
If you literally just shampoo, condition, and style with lots of water once a week, it would solve a lot of your hair concerns. Cut out any steps that haven't been recommended by a professional.
Okay serious question, can y'all show me picks of 4a, 4b, and 4c hair side by side so I can see the "difference"? I bet no response will be consistent, proving no one knows what this made up stuff is, but prove me wrong.
@benzpxnani
Products without heavy oils and butters so high up on the ingredient list.
@CuseCurlfriend
has webinar replays going over product recommendations.
@BlackGirlCurls2
also has an e-book with product recommendations.
How do you know it's just tons of product? Loudney, the stylist here, actually focuses on hydration through using lots of water, not product. Some of y'all don't even know what hydrated hair looks like, but argue/critique pros.
I am? Woah. Thanks for pointing that out. All my knowledge left my brain when I cut all my hair off. You should definitely take advice from someone with long hair. That’s more logical. But thanks for sharing my tweet. That’s love right there☺️💜
Funny how folks ask for cited sources and research articles when I explain how oils aren’t helpful. Where were the dissertation questions for the YouTube girlies? Y’all ran straight to the oil aisle, no questions asked.🫠
Ok y'all IG is the new YellowPages (iykyk). Searches you can try for a hairstylist:

There are talented people in your area, you just have to look.
What I've learned today: "4c" hair is how people classify hair that they "don't believe" has a curl pattern without manipulation. So when I show a wash and go on "4c" hair, folks say it's not 4c because of that mindset.
As long as my barber keeps showing off like this, I don’t think I’ll ever grow my hair out. Y’all can keep calling me bald headed. I love it over here!😝
Folks want a dissertation and cited sources from licensed haircare professionals on their advice. Meanwhile a celebrity can sweep up hair in their mom’s salon and folks have no further questions on credibility. I hate it here.
Tight curls defined after hydration. Fully dry in the after. If the only time you think someone has 4c is based on the before, but you wouldn't label the after photo the same, maybe something is wrong with the label. No curl types over here. Just hydration.
The trust clients put in me to bring their vision to life, to make a big change, or to teach them more about their hair. I don’t take it lightly. These were just a few transformations from this week.🙏🏾
In case I never made it clear, this simplified approach to hair is not a "method". It's not something I created. It's not new. It may be new to you. It's just hair care.
Washing at lest once a week and shampooing twice is the best way to keep you hair and scalp health. The first wash gets rid of environmental pollution, potential debris, and product, some times the first wash may not suds or not get rid of all the product.
A dream 7 years in the making. A vision I had since I enrolled in cosmetology school. A team of stylists dedicated to educating clients in a salon that exclusively serves clients with curly hair.🥹
If you're new here...Hi, I'm Camille! Textured hair specialist, educator, and salon owner in Sacramento, CA. I exclusively serve clients with textured hair, specifically curly cuts and locs. My motto: simplicity is key. And less is more, unless it's water.
If a stylist says you need to blow out your curly hair to effectively cut split ends, they have not been adequately trained to cut hair in its curly state.
If I fail at baking a cake multiple times, should I go tell a professional pastry chef that it's impossible to bake a cake? No. But when it comes to hair care...nevermind.
I hate when in try to be responsible while grocery shopping. Then I get home and don’t want any of the healthy food I bought. Should have got the snacks I wanted.
A few before and afters from this week. When clients say “cut what needs to go”, that trust and openness allows us to create the freedom they seek with their hair.🙏🏾
The info I share on hair oils is not a belief, like Santa Claus or the tooth fairy. Whether or not you believe or feel like it works, does not change the behavior of oil in your hair, scientifically.
Just so y’all know I’m not judging you, I just want to help. I thought I was doing something 11 years ago, slicking my hair down with shea butter and had the nerve to have a whole YouTube channel. 😩
@kellyoxty
This tweet is complete bc it’s a platform where I share freely. The solution is all up and through my page. Shampoo, condition, and style weekly. That is the solution.
I used pretty much the same shampoo, conditioner, and gel for both of these clients. That's why I don't care what your curl pattern is. It doesn't matter as much as you think.
“Black hair” is not a specialty y’all. I can’t install wigs. I have colleagues that can’t braid. But we can slay a curly cut and wash and go. All of those fall under “Black hair”. Get specific about the services you want a stylist to be skilled in.
I just ran into my childhood hairstylist at the salon professional supply store. She said she’s proud of me and wants me to do her hair. Talk about full circle.
You can smooth them down with foam after cleansing. But let’s prioritize health/care/hygiene. If a style is keeping us from having a clean scalp and hydrated hair, let’s re-evaluate things.
I love this before/after bc these results were only possible bc she’s been consistent w/ her routine and recommended products for about 5 mos. I gave her some pointers on styling, but the hydration was all her at-home care.
I'm realizing, it's not that my message is unclear. It's just not what people want to hear. Shampoo, condition, & style weekly. That's it. That's all. Unless your stylist recommended something else specifically for you, you're adding unnecessary steps.
Calling me a gatekeeper then privately asking me to take down my quote RT bc you’re being “harassed” is wild. Baby you harassed me. I have 600+ RT of folks harassing/insulting me. Just use the mute button, have a seat, and leave me alone.
Likeeee are we really determining things about our hair based on a cartoon drawing? Let’s really think about it folks. 4c is not real and the whole curl typing chart belongs in the trash.
This is why I don't give product recommendations online. This client came in person, watched me do it, and has all the same products. The secret is in the TECHNIQUE, which takes PRACTICE. Knowing the product isn't going to cut it. Start with what you have.
Y'all funny on here. Quick to say everyone's hair is different in regard to me saying you shouldn't use oils. Then turn around and ask for generalized product recommendations.
Cannot advocate for this enough. An admin assistant and meal deliveries have been saviors this year. I used to wear struggle as a badge of honor. Never again. I want ease for us.
