I was a healthy cardiologist and marathon runner. Now, I have organ damage and I’m on two medications to thin my blood. Let’s call #LongCovid like it is. A condition with potential to cause a vasculopathy and clotting state that will lead to unprecedented medical complications.

@tbas7000 No, I didn’t. My first instinct was to get mom out of there as soon as possible. I’m running on fumes as it is with the 24/7 care. Not to mention I’m depending on that office staff to get her set up for a procedure….

#LongCovid doesn’t seem to fit into the agenda of any of the political parties. Yet, if you love this country and its citizens; its children and future children; its economy; its healthcare system; and its position in the world, you ought to start caring about it now.

In less than one week, we’ve had the Chair of an esteemed Department of Medicine suffer a serious head & neck injury due to effects of a C-19 infection, still testing positive after a course of antivirals…. …and the New York Times report that “the C-19 pandemic is really over.”.

Does @POTUS know what #LongCovid is? . I’m serious. Has anyone briefed him about clots, organ damage, brain injuries, etc?.

Dealing with #LongCovid is going to be very expensive. But- the global strategy of pushing it aside to manage later is a colossal mistake. “Later” will be too late. Mass disability and collapsed economies will be inevitable. The time to face up to #LongCovid is now.

@acweyand This is a virus that attacks endothelium and activates platelets. The virus is still circulating all over the world. So unfortunately, I’m not at all surprised by the clotting events. What I am shocked by is the lack of leadership from academia and medical societies.

For those still doubting that COVID can suppress an immune system in a perfectly healthy person:. I nearly died from a severe COVID infection in Spring of 2020-required home oxygen for months.Never made my own antibodies to SARS-CoV-2 and was leukopenic for a year. Not normal.

Almost 4 years into #LongCovid, my friend will lose a kidney today from cancer. Prayers up. 🙏🏻. Please remember that #LongCovid isn’t just “post viral symptoms.” People are getting cancer, losing organs, having strokes, heart attacks. Avoid “mystery illnesses” at all costs. 😷.

Just a friendly PSA: . SARS-CoV-2 damages blood vessels and vital organs. Thus, #LongCovid (in at least some)=a syndrome of blood vessel & organ damage- along w/elevated cardiovascular risk. Familiarize yourself with the symptoms of heart attack & stroke, & listen to your body.

My review of the literature and own complex #LongCovid case is confirming that this disease likely involves activated platelets and a vasculopathy, primarily involving microvascular beds. Microvascular circulation is significant, and necessary for proper organ perfusion.

My friend (50s) has confirmed kidney cancer. She has zero risk factors for this type of rare cancer. She’s had #LongCovid for nearly 4 yrs, never vaxed, previously healthy. Correlation doesn’t imply causation. But to ignore the trend of increased cancer & CV events is foolish.

I was fooled. In '19, when public health & medical talking heads told all of us C-19 was "nothing to worry about." Much like they are doing now, as they soothe with myths of "immunity debt.". I was fooled. And ended up with full body vasculopathy & strokes. Don't be fooled.😷.

Many people ask if I think #Omicron will affect the blood vessels and cause clotting the way previous variants have. As long as the virus can injure blood vessel linings, and activate platelets, it will cause clots. No such thing as a “mild” pulmonary embolism (clot in lungs):.

@fitterhappierAJ Thanks. I’ll add the vascular changes and hypercoaguability we’re seeing post SARS-CoV-2 are unlike anything I’ve seen in my career with other viruses that trigger ME/CFS- especially years out. I fear we’ll be dealing with CV consequences of COVID for years- if not decades.

I'm a physician with severe complications from #LongCovid. I've shared details of my illness for years, in hopes of bringing useful information to my colleagues & the public. Even if I've helped one person, it was worth putting myself out there. I get to choose when I "move on.".

@PJPrydderch I would suggest anyone with a serious illness to think about whether twitter is the right place to share details of their illness. Social media often reinforces people's narrative and potentially makes it even more difficult to move on.

@EricTopol I can’t share your enthusiasm, Dr. T. The endothelial damage this virus causes may undermine decades of work we’ve done as cardiologists to aggressively prevent CV disease. I fear infection-no matter how mild- will become an independent risk factor for CV disease. Hope I’m wrong.

This article is tragic. And just hit the email inbox of every practitioner in the US today. Let me sum it up. “Treatments” for #LongCovid:.LDN, SSRIs, modafinil, metformin & antihistamines. Would this fly for any other persistent, organ damaging virus?.

The hypercoaguable state in acute and subacute SARS-CoV-2 (#LongCovid) should be one of the primary targets of a worldwide warp speed scientific investigation. Clots won’t wait to disable or kill- even in the “young and healthy.” We need to act now.

The Latent Pandemic of Heart Failure has already started. Good for the pharmaceutical and device companies. Tragic for humanity. When I tried to warn my colleagues of this 4 years ago I got kicked out of a cardiology FB group for “talking nonsense.” . Vascular & cardiac 💣.
