@zulip Why doesn’t the Zulip app show up if I want to share posts with my team? Slack, Discord, etc, do show up but not the Zulip app

@VergaraLautaro The pictured wall is not that wall. Leiden preserved the original wall (which was behind a sliding blackboard in Ehrenfest’s house) and moved it to the department. Lecturers giving the “Colloquium Ehrenfestii” are still invited to sign it. I did in 2014.

@cphoffmann Did you read the article? Paragraphs 4, 5, and 6 give exactly the information you claim they don’t.

Oldies but goldies: Cooley, James W.; Tukey, John W., An algorithm for the machine calculation of complex Fourier series, 1965. Showed how to compute the discrete Fourier transform in n*log(n) operations. Used (almost) everywhere.

The most amazing fact is that Gauss discovered the Fast Fourier Transform before Fourier discovered the Fourier Transform

@Erickschultz11 @PhysInHistory What Cooley and Tukey realized after their famous paper came out was that Gauss had scooped them by 100+ years when his FFT algorithm was discovered. And there were other forgotten FFT precursors after Gauss with similar approaches.

Obviously a generalization. But may explain why many physics ideas had major impact on CS, ML, and AI
