What can I say, I like to ride...a lot...especially for a great cause like this. š“āāļøš§¬š
#Obliteride is an inspiring event and we're so proud of Team Adaptive and all the participants who took part in the cause to raise funds for life-saving cancer research. A big shout-out to Adaptiveās @bryan_howie for biking 4K miles and Team Adaptive for logging over 9K miles!

Wow, lots of good memories of working on this paper, including the time Peter brought us grad students a 6-pack as we were hacking away at figures late into the night. I spent endless hours trying to cram as much information into Figure 5 as I could.
Fifteen years today since the publication of the WTCCC paper! One of my career highlights to work with so many amazing people at the dawn of a new era in human genetics. Nice too to think that that paper played its part in moving the field forward.

@vsbuffalo @jgschraiber Absolutely! Some of the best talks I've ever seen were on the theme of "things I was previously wrong about", and I would love to see more of this angle in our scientific discourse.

@vsbuffalo @jgschraiber To take the least cynical interpretation of this, I'd say there's a big difference between being obviously wrong at the time and obviously wrong in retrospect. The latter can actually be really insightful, especially when the realization guides you to deeper truths.

I got my start as a scientist when, as a junior at UW, I showed up to Debbie's lab and asked if I could do a project in "computational genomics." Debbie brought a brazen confidence to everything she did, and her delighted cackle was legendary. RIP DN.
My post doc advisor Debbie Nickerson of @uwgenome died on Christmas Eve. She changed the way we thought of and measured single nucleotide polymorphisms. Genomics has lost one of its greats. She was a fierce advocate for many trainees. I donāt know how to process this loss.

@RobLanfear As a co-author of IMPUTE, I can say that our naming convention was hugely influenced by PHASE and STRUCTURE. Basically, take the verb for what the method does, then CAPITALIZE IT. Although, that convention also defines an academic lineage, so maybe not good general advice.
