@Derpology if you had a project idea and laid out the necessary experiments for a single student, they did ALL the experiments, and you wrote the paper, you’d want to be first and corresponding author? to me, that is a bad outcome...which is why you won’t find consensus on said standard

@Derpology unfortunately, I don’t think a standard can ever exist so long as we have individually directed research programs. i think part of the motivation for having your own lab is being able to make these decisions in accordance with your own preferences!

@Derpology eh, who cares? i’ll let the ethicists debate these issues. meanwhile, we will be in the lab doing science 😉. a single FA might publish a lesser version of the same paper with a fraction of the data/expertise
