Our amazing postdocs, @thomaszluo and @julie_charlton_ , will be talking about cross-brain correlates of covert decision commitment. Come and stop by the nanosymposium "Neural Representation of Value and Choice During Decision Making" on Monday Oct 7th at 3:15 PM #sfn2024

Our new preprint is out! Postdocs Thomas Luo (@thomaszluo), Adrian Bondy (@ayjreen), and Julie Charlton (@julie_charlton_) did a fantastic job exploring brain interactions during perceptual decision-making!
How do brain regions interact with each other to give rise to a perceptual decision? @ayjreen @julie_charlton_ and I addressed this question by recording from 8 Neuropixels probes at the same time in rats doing a decision-making task

Our last preprint is out! 📰🧠🪢 Fantastic work by @thomaszluo and @timkimd
What system does the brain use to make decisions? What are the dynamics of this system? In a new preprint, @timkimd and I tested systems-level theories of perceptual decision-making. 1/4

📢🎉 Excited to share my latest work with @briandepasquale, @cdk007, and @brody_lab on how two common suboptimalities in decision-making (history biases and lapses) may be related and could arise from a single underlying cause! (1/2)

Deeply saddened to hear of @shenoystanford Krishna Shenoy's passing. He was brilliant and gentle. He embodied the fact that world-class research could, and should, be built by labs fundamentally made of kindness and care for trainees, and for everyone.
It is with great sadness that we mark the passing of Krishna Shenoy. He was a pillar of our community, a brilliant scientist and a beloved mentor and colleague. We share our condolences with Krishna’s family, trainees and colleagues. Details to come on a planned memorial service.

@chchatham @marinopagan @mikio_aoi @SussilloDavid @ValerioMante @jpillowtime @apaxon But that doesn't mean that the others aren't solutions, or aren't equally good models of brain function, and equally compatible with the data. That's my own take on this particular point, anyway. 🤷

@chchatham @marinopagan @mikio_aoi @SussilloDavid @ValerioMante @jpillowtime @apaxon now imagine that in the space of the loss function, some solutions have a much bigger basin of attraction than others. Without knowing where to initialize, backdrop will tend to find that solution and not the others.

@chchatham @marinopagan @mikio_aoi @SussilloDavid @ValerioMante @jpillowtime @apaxon Varying initialization weights has to be part of the answer-- e.g., if you initialize right at one of the solutions, that's it, you found it.

🚨🚨🚨#TWEEPRINT TIME🚨🚨🚨 A big mystery in brain research is what are the neural mechanisms that drive individual differences in higher order cognitive processes. Here we present a new theoretical framework w/ @brody_lab @mikio_aoi @SussilloDavid @ValerioMante @jpillowtime 1/16
