My favorite girl took her rest yesterday, and grief is beating my ass. Posting cuz I love her smile, and also to say that communication will likely be a lil sketch, but I’ll accept all hugs, hymns/spiritual recommendations, and funny TikTok’s.
Imma just sit this here 😭. Feeling very humbled and excited for the opportunity to talk with brilliant writers about their craft AND do it with my best friend ❤️🙏🏿🙌🏿

, I’m sharing the cover of my forthcoming poetry collection, Good Dress! Like me, Good Dress is a D girl- audacious, tender, and grounded in the City.
I’m so honored to have
@racheleliza_g
gorgeous art on the cover of my debut!! Happy Detroit Day, y’all!
🧵Ok y’all- I need help! My debut poetry collection Good Dress is coming out
@tinhouse
and one of my epigraphs is from LEGEND
@missyelliot
. I intentionally chose quotes that I felt would best introduce my collection & ME . Problem: I need to get the lyric cleared, which is hard!
Currently taking all suggestions for novels to teach in a hero’s journey unit for high school seniors. My babies are all Black or POC, we’re in Detroit proper, and I don’t give af about respectability. Bonus points if there is not a traumatic death at the end.
I had the honor of caring for my grandmother until the very, very end. After, I stayed here. I won a Gilda award. I got my first two reviews published AND my dream press
@Tin_House
picked up my debut collection ❤️
Wait what😳😱

So so grateful to Button Poetry for posting a poem I performed at Rustbelt in my city, about our city, about our youth and the school district I was raised in and teach in, about how to protect them when it seem like everybody wants they life. ❤️❤️❤️
As a person who was poor for a very long time, and is *barely* working class, It always gets interesting on here when people start talking about how much money they think folks do or do not have and revealing all the ways they separate themselves from “hood” folks 🙃🙃🙃
So excited to announce that my poem Pantoum for Postpartum, originally published with
@TinderboxPoetry
, was chosen to be in
@SundressPub
Best of the Net Anthology!! Thank you to judge
@jasminnemendez

My AP kids are starting their poetry lit circles today. Last year, we read a whole collection (
@pswordwoman
, Blood Dazzler), but I wanted to give them more options. I’m so excited to see how this goes!
Today my 12th grade babies are analyzing Baby Suggs sermon and creating their own set of affirmations for their community. Love watching them love on their people.
I can’t believe I’m entering my last semester at
@randolphmfa
! In the spirit of paying it forward, I would love to sponsor two Black poets who are applying to this program in the upcoming semester . You know someone? Send them my way!
So remember the poetry collections I assigned to my seniors? The first thing I had them do was annotate the entire collection. They were so thoughtful, and I’m so proud of them!! 😭😭 Poems by

"I promise if you hear
Of me dead anywhere near
A cop, then that cop killed me. He took
Me from us and left my body, which is,
No matter what we've been taught,
Greater than the settlement
A city can pay a mother to stop crying..."

So so honored to be a finalist for the 2020 Furious Flower Poetry Prize. In the midst of all this madness, I’m looking forward to reading poems from these beautiful folks 💓💓💓
1. My grad reading is today and I know I’m nervous cuz I started stress dreaming last night.
2. In my dream all the nails in my graduation set fell off 😭
3. The thought of getting a full set done in a place that’s not Detroit is what woke me up sweating.
The end.
Still so excited and honored to be making this announcement!! Thank you so much

Some of y’all are trying to lose your job and/or get sued.
You don’t get to decide you’re just not going to implement a child’s IEP.
Y’all are telling on yourselves and it’s gross.

I mean, I don’t care for *that family * either but as a DV survivor, these antics look real familiar, and I’m real uncomfortable with the way ppl are acting like it’s all jokes and games.
I’m ever grateful for Black women, and especially grateful to Toi Dericotte for lending us her wisdom. This episode means so much to me as an emerging Black poet, as a person deeply invested in lineage and archival, and as a grieving granddaughter. Please listen when you can! ❤️

So I call myself being cute, FaceTime cooking with my mama. I mighta accidentally took a sip while I was cooking. Of some brown. From the bottle 😬🙃. I ain’t gone never hear the end of it 😭😭
Any day I get to write about Detroit AND audacity is a good day. Thank you again to
@mayaamarshall

for publishing my poem about Detroits ice cam, and giving me space to talk about my editing process. Check out the whole issue at it goes!
My project is a grown woman’s non traditional coming of age that explores audacity, autonomy, adornment, intimacy, and of course Detroit. In it, I shout out so many Black femmes who were central to my formation of self, and of course,

is one of them;
