@thisisinsider

I’m thrilled to announce last week I started as a junior reporter
@thisisinsider
after a successful 6 month fellowship! I’m grateful for my time here so far, and I’m so excited for all that’s to come. My 📥 is open for story ideas, and if you’re in NYC, let’s grab coffee!
I was laid off from Insider on Monday, and I’m grateful for everything I learned and who I got to work with! I’m looking for opportunities to continue reporting on AI and tech policy, or a pivot to foreign affairs reporting, specifically in European politics. 📧 in bio, say👋!
Just wrapped my second week at
@Forbes
where I’ll be on the breaking news team for the next few months💫I’m thrilled for a new challenge and so grateful for everyone who encouraged me this summer🫶Send tips, scoops + more on tech, foreign affairs, and everything in between👀👩💻
Are there some journalists out there who can share their experience getting laid off in their early 20s/early career with me … some days on the job hunt are brutal and I’d appreciate some assurance that my career (and life) aren’t over yet et tout s’arrangera 🤞
today I:
-finished my 2,000-word final feature story
-finished my 3 1,200-word reports I’ve been working on for 3 months
-made my first A in a UNC French class :,)
Quartz is growing! Congratulations to

hi everyone! today’s my first day as a Careers Fellow
@BusinessInsider
and I couldn’t be more excited 🤩 I’m looking forward to working with
@chroncich1
,
@chriswweller
and the rest of the team at BI and
@thisisinsider
covering careers, strategy and the workplace!
got a rejection from a fellowship that I was unusually confident for and now I feel like that contestant on the Bachelor who gets sent home and everyone on the internet is like, “make her Bachelorette!!”
Devastated for my alma mater and praying for everyone’s safety on campus and in the Chapel Hill community. We shouldn’t have to go through this almost everyday in the US.
BREAKING: An armed and dangerous person is on or near UNC's campus, police report.
All students, faculty and staff are advised to go inside immediately, close windows and doors, stay until further notice and follow directions from emergency responders and officials.
hiii I’m moving to Boston at the end of June for a non-journalism job and I’m looking for some freelance and entry-level reporting or copywriting positions 😁 my work is at the link in my bio and my DMs are open for leads 🙋🏻♀️
For
@thisisinsider
, I'm looking for people who can share advice on how they're balancing a side hustle with having a full-time job. I want to talk about why and how (and how much $) they manage a side hustle. If this sounds like you or someone you know, 📩 me!
#journorequests
Hi everyone! I’m writing an article for
@dailytarheel
about how restaurants in CH are going to be affected by students leaving campus. I am looking to talk to restaurant employees about how this could affect their income and livelihoods. Please DM me or reply if you can help me!
My mom and her family fled Vietnam on this day 45 years ago. She told me she still remembers standing on the shore in the sunlight waiting to board the boat to leave the country. It was the day before her 7th birthday.
This semester, I want to write about political organizers in North Carolina, specifically in rural communities around the state. DMs are open for ideas and leads. 📝💡
My Forbes contract ends soon so I'm looking for what's next! If you're on holiday thinking of a project you want to start (or hire for) in the new year, 📩🙋♀️! I've written a variety of news, features, explainers, newsletters, brand copy, blog posts, and video and radio stories.💫
Just finished an amazing first week here in Vienna with the Austrian-American Media Fellowship Program! All week, we’ve been meeting with diplomats, journalists, and others to discuss topics such as the war in Ukraine, AI, and social housing. Looking forward to more next week!
if you told me a year ago I’d be listening to the 10 minute version of All Too Well from my NYC apartment, I would’ve been sooo mad at you for taunting me like that…but here I am :,)

Excited to be a new member of
@aaja
! Thank you to
@readwriteradio
for helping me with my membership. I’m looking forward to meeting more journalists, and my DMs are open for chatting, networking and job leads (graduating in May!) 😁
personal growth is how when I was little I was ashamed of my last name because people made fun of me and couldn’t pronounce it and now I wish my mom had given me a full Vietnamese name

I saw one of my favorite profs
@ESMcIntyre
tweet about this book and had to get my own copy while supporting my favorite local bookstore
@epiloguebooksch
! So excited to read it! Can we start a bookclub?
This is horrifying. But we knew something like this was going to happen and that these "protestors" wouldn't be treated half as bad as people marching for BLM and against police brutality.
"This is continuing to escalate here":
@krisvancleave
reports as thousands of Trump supporters storm the U.S. Capitol. Tear gas is being used on the inaugural steps where Joe Biden is set to be sworn in two weeks from today
Hi everyone — I’m looking to talk with Gen Z workers (24 or younger) working in corporate offices of retail companies for a
@thisisinsider
piece. Let’s talk about remote work, working with older colleagues, and what it’s like being Gen Z in the workplace. DMs and email open!
Have you been hearing about F1 too? Confused? I got you! This is F1, explained for rookies.
Because F1 isn't just a car race. It's a space program, for the road.
Huge If True, episode 8:
AAPI journalists at
@UNCHussman
, I’ve been seeing a lot of really nice people sponsoring
@AAJA
student memberships and I encourage you to reach out and get one! I’m super new, but I’ve already had a great time meeting and networking with some awesome journalists in the industry!
I can’t share my work now bc I’m not crossing the picket line 🙅♀️🪧 but I’m also interested in continuing to report on tech startups and entrepreneurs. And if you’re a tech startup looking for a copywriter or creative, I’m open to that too!
I’m 🧠 ⛈ a 📝 that’s been on my mind for a while. Do you ever think about “the one that got away” in your career? That job you could’ve/should’ve/would’ve taken if xyz. I’d love to talk to people at any point in their career about career regret. DM or 📧 me if you wanna chat 👋
Hi everyone —
@caity_henderson
and I are working on a story about “The Great Resignation,” and are interested in talking to women and people of color who worked in retail or healthcare about why they left their jobs this year. DMs and inbox open!
#journorequest
I’m in Selma, NC for
@dailytarheel
election night coverage of
@DanForestNC
election night party. I will try to live-tweet the event as results come in.
Excited that my first story for The DTH is about something I love: independent bookstores! I’ve been telling all of my friends to read Normal People, so get your copy locally like I did.
my brother (aspiring commercial pilot) sent me a job application to be a flight attendant...I appreciate his awareness of how unpredictable the journalism industry is
cultural differences between my roommates and me:
- being honest about your mental health with your parents
- using the dishwasher
- having generational wealth
It’s is so frustrating to see this take over and over. There are ways to talk about racism against Asian Americans without being anti-Black and comparing the oppression of both groups.
This is so disappointing. As an aspiring journalist who wants to work in DC, I would like to hope that the people I want to work with have respect for my career and also for me as a person. He’s not the only one up there who treats women or reporters like this so PLEASE VOTE!!
Resignation rates in the US are at a two-decade high, and research shows it’s not only about workers wanting better pay and positions, but wanting to feel valued at work. For my first
@BusinessInsider
story, I wrote about “The Great Resignation.”
It’s so nice to talk with people in the industry who understand your experiences. I haven’t been able to connect with many AAPI students or profs at Hussman, so being a part of AAJA has been so refreshing and fun and I feel so supported and seen. Please join.

Wrote my first sports story for
@unc_mediahub
and I really enjoyed learning more about a topic I’ve never covered before. Thanks for letting me work on this story with you,
@chip_sweeney3
!
grateful for the Vietnamese friends college has given me who can relate with me about growing up with an identity crisis of not being American enough and not being Vietnamese enough & also the experience of having immigrant parents. it feels good to not be alone!!
I had no tech or business reporting background when I started at Insider (studied European politics in uni 😉), but I learned quickly, and I’m a more well-rounded reporter now. I would love to continue that growth. Send anything (freelance, job openings, etc.) my way!
I get so frustrated with myself when I do an interview with someone who apologizes if their English “isn’t good” because it’s me, not you!! I am the one who should apologize because I can only speak one language!!
going through an interview I did a few weeks ago where at the 2:16:15 mark I told the interviewee I was at one of my last questions...the interview ended up being 3:41:06 😅
Every year, AAJA gives out scholarships and internship grants to support aspiring journalists all over the country.
Have someone in mind who you think would benefit from our programs and support network? Gift them an AAJA membership here:

I might as well say I’m ALSO interested in reporting opportunities covering Formula 1‼️🏎️ Yes, I was sucked in by DTS, but I’ve learned so much about the sport (and the tech!) that maybe someone should let me talk about it so I’m not always bothering my friends.

I’m looking forward to the stories coming from the
@BeltBorder
team in southeastern NC! I was excited to write one of the first stories for the website, so check it out ⬇️⬇️⬇️
Today we’re starting Border Belt Independent, a news organization dedicated to highlighting the issues that matter in Bladen, Columbus, Robeson and Scotland counties. We are so excited to share our stories with you! Check out our website: .
Hi everyone! I am working on a reporting project about how refugees in NC are doing during the coronavirus pandemic. I’m focused on the Triangle area, but I can talk to refugees settled anywhere in NC. If you know any refugees who will be comfortable for an interview, DMs open.
today my professor apologized to everyone for being tired because of coachella weekend and it turns out she was there to film a documentary and she just CASUALLY drops that she MET Gigi Hadid and Leo DiCaprio and I guess that’s just how you know she’s really from LA !!

@Omsom
. Telling this story about 2 fellow first-gen Vietnamese Americans meant so much to me👇
I’ve seen a lot of tweets about how this is important especially for children with different names, and it SO is. I was so embarrassed of my heritage when I was younger because some of my teachers didn’t give a fuck about how to pronounce my last name. It matters A LOT.
no more ciao, no more grazie, no more prego, no more buongiorno, no more buona giornata, no more buonasera, no more buonaserata, no more come stai, no more bene
It was such a pleasure talking to
@katyetc
for this story! I also grew up watching Jeopardy! every night, so meeting someone who went on the show (and won!) was too cool.
Carrboro resident Kathryn Peters grew up watching "Jeopardy!"
Recently, Peters got her chance to compete on the show. She left with winnings of $22,001, some of which she pledged to two organizations that work to ensure people can vote easily.
Thanks for working with me on this story,
@FounderEmily_
! For
@BusinessInsider
, I talked to three people balancing a full-time job with a side hustle to see how they manage to do it all while maintaining a social life. Check it out 👇
So excited to be showcased in
@BusinessInsider
as one of the business owners who balances time between a full time job and full time founder!
Bootstrapping a startup is hard and takes dedication. S/O to all the other founders!
Thank you

I joined SJP freshman year of college, motivated by
@Claudia_Oppelt
who spent a summer living with a Palestinian family under occupation. I wanted to learn more about what is happening and listen to Palestinians talk about their experience, as journalists do. AP made a bad move.
Israeli government bombs your office in Gaza but no y'all wanna fire an intrepid young journalist who advocated for human rights in college.
You can have all the panels on DEI at any journalism conference but it won't change how scared young journalists are in this industry.
This was my last story for Insider (more on that soon), but DO NOT 🙅♀️❌ click on/read this or any other Insider stories/links while
@InsiderUnion
is on strike! Don’t cross the picket line! ✊🔥
when will the old man Stanford grad in my French class invite me to one of his dinner parties he keeps telling me about...I want to hear about your time on Wall Street...
