@HexRaysSA @discourse On the forum: is it possible to ask why hexrays screwed existing customers with existing licences or do you get banned for asking?

I genuinely wish the best for my American friends and the people there, but I’m pretty fucking worried about it. America first doesn’t sound so great if you’re not American. Anyway, I’m on mastodon/bluesky and hardly tweeting this days.

@SchmidDorian @_FriedrichMerz Also, no country really had a “tradition” of dual citizenship, but when pretty much every other western country allowed it - the world didn’t fall apart. No dual citizenship (yes there’s exceptions in some cases) also harms Germans who want to live in America for example.

@SchmidDorian @_FriedrichMerz And then if we are talking banning EU citizens with dual citizenship of both an EU nation and a non EU one, then Israel’s with polish passports for example would be excluded. It’s just really not a good idea to try change because the tide is set with most EU countries allowing it

@SchmidDorian @_FriedrichMerz I mean, there is already been laws to strip citizenship from nationals who have joined foreign (non nato, EU/ Australia, NZ etc) armies or listed terror groups, so maybe there’s an argument for that expanding those laws, but tying banning dual citizenship to it is silly

@SchmidDorian @_FriedrichMerz I don’t think most Germans actually care about dual citizenship; it’s really just CDU playing politics to their base. There’s no real risk at all really. But migrants really care about this.

@SchmidDorian @_FriedrichMerz Almost every rich developed countries allows dual citizenship including basically all of germanys allies, and germany must compete, because the idea of single identity is outdated. Skilled migrants will just demand it.

@SchmidDorian @_FriedrichMerz Fix your permanent residence into a EU wide residence system that doesn’t expire, and maybe it’s worth it, but even then, if you’re paying tax and have passed language tests, they should be able to vote (but that’s the least of my worries compared to residency rights)

@SchmidDorian @_FriedrichMerz Permanent residence isn’t sufficient replacement for passport because in Europe, it actually expires if you leave Europe for more than a year or two; and also it doesn’t grant EU wide residency rights. This is why it’s important for migrants who want to live in the continent.
