NEW: Today, I’m releasing a Surgeon General’s Advisory on the causal link between alcohol consumption and increased cancer risk. Alcohol is the 3rd leading preventable cause of cancer in the U.S., contributing to about 100,000 cancer cases and 20,000 cancer deaths each year.

@paper1000fraud @STOTEN_journal We have solved this w/ the ARCS (Arms Race Control Score). Each publication has a point total (1-4)-divide that by authorship position (1st & last are 1, 2nd is 2, 3rd is 3, etc. if that point total is 1 or less, we discard it when counting your ARCS. We have to #stopthearmsrace

💯 - We address disparities in research opportunities in our @NeurosurgeryCNS (in-press) manuscript, & this is why we developed the “Arms RaCe Control Score” (ARCS), that only counts pub med-indexed publications by the 1st,2nd, & 3rd author.
I realize some medical students take time off to build research experience, but this favors people that CAN take time off—mostly wealthy students with significant parental financial support. Students living off loans often cannot do this. They need to get to residency and start earning a pay check. We should do better.

Makes no sense. @NCAASoccer should make a statement apologizing. The stakes are so high that these moments change everything - HAVE TO get them right. VAR is to help the refs get it right.
