Here’s the face I gave Blood Meridian after reading it for the first time in 2017. I hated it. I have since re-read it, recanted, and think better of it. I understand many others have a similar set of experiences with this one.

Here are all of my King James Bibles. I’m currently reading the one on the bottom and every single other one is from my father, grandfather, or great-grandfather.

Latest podcast episode is up. I revisit an episode from exactly 5 years ago where I covered Proverbs and talked about a shift I had in thinking about the Fear of the Lord. I added an intro & outro to the original episode -

@victoriamoul Although Sappho never summoned the muses (from the fragments we have), Plato described her as the 10th muse.

What in the world does The Fear of the Lord mean? I reach into the podcast vault and pull out an episode from exactly 5 years ago where I covered the Book of Proverbs. I add an intro and outro highlighting what I’ve learned since that original episode. This is one of my favorites from the past years.

Continuing on in book 1 for the year, the Bible KJV. I finished Isaiah and then read the first 9 chapters of Jeremiah. Here are some illustrations by Barry Moser: the first of Jeremiah and the other two from the end of Isaiah.

I’m working my way through The Immortal Books over the next 15 years but in that process, I’m leaving room for ancillary books that pique my interest. Here are a few I read in 2023 where I followed my fancy.

Continuing on in the Book of the Prophet Isaiah this morning. There were some incredible illustrations to accompany the illustrious text. I read Isaiah 27 - 50. I’m now on page 593/995 and am still pushing to finish the Bible + Apocrypha by February 28th. This has been so fun.

Rule #1 is always carry a book. Well, my daughter has kept the spirit but broken the letter by carrying a big bunch of books 📚 😉.

Morning reading: the Book of the Prophet Isaiah, chapters 10-21. The Lord has just commanded Isaiah to walk naked for 3 years “for a sign and wonder upon Egypt and upon Ethiopia.”

Just marking the retirement of one Muji 0.5mm pen to a new Muji 0.5mm pen. This momentous occasion occurs around once a month. I love these pens so much.

@joeyallendazole I just love how the idea shows up over and over of giving money here gets credited in heaven. Helping the poor gets added to your eternal bank account. Not as the reason for giving. But what an amazing idea!

Day 34 of reading straight through the Bible. I finished Proverbs this morning, which has really become a focal point of this reading project in terms of thinking about direction and the fear of the Lord. Next up is Ecclesiastes. I’m using the King James Version this year and the version designed and illustrated by Barry Moser. Here are some of his beautiful illustrations from Proverbs.
