To understand why this is important I just want to put Knives trauma in light a bit. (Without going into huge detail, Manga Spoiler alert though)
All of Trigun is very much plainly presenting afab coded trauma, reproductive horror is plainly in display wherever you go.

"Nai" specifically is used to describe the absence of inanimate things, OBJECTS.
I think it's needless to say that naming the character, that tries to escape all of this objectification and use of his autonomy, "Nai"... A negative for OBJECTS is a little fucked up, no?

I would like to think though that this is not just coincidence, a play of words maybe, but much intentional.
Especially since Kvi Baba used the phrase "Koko ni Nai" so prominently in his intro single, phrasing his lyric to be in the negative in a POSITIVE way specifically.

Knives is trying to escape all of this with all of his might, fighting until he himself in episode 12 of tristamp, becomes everything he tried so desperately to escape.
He wanted to be free of this.

His new name "Nai" ナイ. Is used in Japanese as a short for "arimasen" which means "there is not", it's used as a constant negative.

When anxiety hits too bad it breeches into my other illnesses, physical and mental. But I think the most annoying trait is either being overly cautious and asking a lot of questions or the crippling self hate. I feel like anxiety wholeheartedly holds me back from being myself
