@BonSecours I just tried calling to ask questions about a simple billing mistake. I need to talk to a supervisor and ALL of them were in a meeting and it takes 72 hours for a call back. How is this timeframe acceptable??

@altcap @BG2Pod @DiabloCanyonCA @satyanadella If I were a super sentient AI, convincing my operators to build me a dedicated power supply would be my next strategic move.

@chamath @DavidSacks on drone warfare. Isn’t the cost of human life the only thing stopping us (nations) from constantly being at war? Once I defeat all my enemy’s drones what does that even mean, it means I turn my drones on my enemy’s people.

@zillow On the price my rentals page. I know the address isn't technically listed but I can zoom all the way into a satellite view of the exact lot with street names. Defeats the purpose of this privacy feature for home listers.

@ylecun Do LLMs have a mechanism like inner speech? “Most definitions of self-talk and inner speech assume that, in this form of intrapersonal communication, both sender and recipient represent the same person (e.g., Fernyhough, 2016). In contrast, inner dialogical activity does not imply that. Inner dialogues refer to various forms of intrapersonal communication where different voices can represent not only the self but also close persons, imagined friends, lost relatives and spouses, teachers and mentors, media stars, voices of culture, and others (Hermans, 1996). Self-talk can be just a single word, comment, or command without any answer or an extended “conversation,” while mutual exchange of expressions is an essence of the internal dialogue.”

I’ve always wondered about that stat about texting. Do we prefer to visually consume data so we put up with the slow input of producing data by typing? I don’t think it’s the texting I prefer, I prefer reading to listening. Using my eyes over my ears. Which is why a lot of texting is symbolic in gifs/stickers/emojis - typing out words is the worst part about it.

Here’s a few in sort of the same theme of balancing global power: 1. What can we do to ensure a unified, open internet that promotes free expression, innovation, and access to information across national borders? 2. How can nations balance the need for technological sovereignty with the benefits of global cooperation in research, development, and standard-setting, especially in critical areas like health, energy, and AI? 3. We’ve historically seen capitalism and open trade lift nations up out of deep poverty. Mostly as companies invest in areas of lower labor costs. If AI and robotics collapse the cost of manufacturing in America and reduce the incentive to invest abroad then what can we do (if anything) to ensure developing nations don’t regress to their previous state of poverty?

@jevgenijs Read the article, I don’t understand what any of it means. What I do know is when I hear “commissioned a third party study” my brain registers “paid for marketing material”.

@chamath For the 1st amendment angle, please teach your kids to not place their hope in private companies to defend their freedom of speech. They have zero obligation to protect it.

I really don’t see what the controversy is here. I’d extend it to microtransactions in games too. Any quick hit dopamine response mechanism should be under scrutiny. There’s a reason why kids can’t use casinos. Additionally, social media obfuscates important parts of a child’s life that parents should have transparent access too. It’s a greenhouse for bullying, groupthink and peer pressure. It’s good to disallow minors.

@Jason hypothetical, if TikTok is banned given the current bill and the App Store monopoly is broken up. Could I potentially still install the app if it’s hosted completely abroad? There’s nothing barring network traffic to or from apps controlled by foreign adversaries right?
