As I’m sure most of us are aware, the most recent wildfires in Los Angeles were the most devastating in the history of the city. Our hearts go out to all those affected physically, mentally, and emotionally. During this time it is important to prioritize the things that make us happy. As a Southern California myself, my heart breaks for the hundreds of kids who lost not only all of their equipment but their little leagues as well. As a result of the massively horrific and destructive Eaton fire, Central Altadena little league has burned down. California Strong has partnered with both Rawlings and Easton to help rebuild the greater LA baseball and softball communities including equipment replacement, equipment donation, and fire relief. This cause has inspired me as well as many of my other high school teammates and friends playing college baseball around the country to help in any way we can. The college baseball world is small, tight knit and we know how uplifting this sport can be even in the toughest times. We are passionate about contributing to this cause by raising money that goes specifically to rebuilding Central Altadena Little League. This money will be available to the president and board of the little league to rebuild the little league that was standing just a few weeks ago. The incredible UCONN community has already been emphatic about wanting to help this cause. So, Husky Nation, please consider donating to this incredible cause, and help the Central Altadena Little League community be whole once again. If you are a college baseball player that has been affected by these fires or just simply wants to help, please do not hesitate to reach out to me and I will get you involved ASAP. PLEASE READ. IMPORTANT. One of our @UConnBSB players, @biller_sam just sent me this text out of the blue, today, and I think this could be a really good opportunity to show the compassion of our fan base/alumnus. Whether you’re a UConn fan, or just a concerned citizen, I can’t express how good of an idea I think Sam has to try to help the kids affected by these fires replace their athletic equipment. So much devastation, and so MUCH to replace, that I would imagine new sports gear will be pretty far down the list of things they’ll be able to replace quickly. This tweet is simply to gauge interest from our fan base in supporting a cause like this. If all of you say “Let’s go let’s do it!” then Sam and I will work on setting up a Go Fund Me and finding the best organization to work with to accomplish this effort. Before we sprint down that road, Sam and I just wanted to see if UConn Nation would stand behind us. Mr. @marcdamelio what our your thoughts on this idea, sir? Think we can mobilize the masses? You all know we’ve partnered our @UConnHuskies athletes with deserving charities all over Connecticut and even around the world (yes, seriously, the world). So when one of our athletes comes to us for help beginning a charitable initiative of their own we feel a responsibility to stand directly behind them.
