it's true, CP is done. i'm gutted, obviously. i love my friends and coworkers more than anything. i'm so proud of us and the work we've done.
hey, at least we went out with a middle finger on the cover. love y'all.
it is literally the most romantic thing in the world to me to watch minnesotans bundle up on subzero nights just to go to the bar and sit with their friends
hi everybody! ~personal news thread~: in a twist some are calling "downright shyamalanian," it turns out i'm gonna be the new managing editor of
@citypages
. hoo boy!
putting a hex on every person who let their sidewalk become a two-inch-thick block of ice!! which is now covered in an inch of snow!!! making it impossible to tell where it’s safe to walk and where you’re all but guaranteed to fall!!!!
just a thought: racket is a small, relatively cash poor news startup, and we've turned down ads from several musicians, restaurant chains, and breweries who've done harm in the community. saying no is always an option! welp, see ya!
i truly do not understand why this type of guy lives in a city at all?? walk- and bike-ability is one of the best things urban areas can offer! move literally anywhere else!
got some angry emails about this headline yesterday, and to those people i'd like to say: jesus fucking christ, what was this maskless concert at kmart?
she's burgers is my favorite band in minneapolis right now! they're all 7-10 years old and they write songs about animals and sports and how being a girl is cool! i would die for them!
have you ever spent weeks or months avoiding a task that ultimately took you between three and fifteen minutes to complete?
please tell me about it! it's technically for a story but also to make myself feel less bad about being an avoidant ass
i moved to minneapolis from boston in 2017 and imo a very impactful thing would be to just put real estate listings from coastal cities next to real estate listings from MSP and let people draw their own conclusions ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Minnesota is worth a visit. Better yet, a move here. The state is struggling to share that message, and tourism officials say their old marketing tactics aren't working.
your good friend and mine, howie aka bobby cowboy aka robby dogboy aka dr. boyfriend aka hooters mall of america aka the best boy, passed away last night after his battle with cancer. ty everyone who’s walked, played, or snugged with the boy, we’re gonna miss the hell outta him💗
This is the way I’ve voted in basically every election since I became a journalist: Blank ballot. Only because of the current climate do I feel like sharing publicly.

incredible remarks on the exclusion of voices of color from the city council president who, for example, scheduled a vote on eid so muslim council members wouldn't show up
“I am a Black, transgender woman. I see a lot of signs in my ward that say, Black Lives Matter, Love is Love, Everyone’s welcome — all of these things. And yet as a Black woman, my voice is criticized and/or minimized.”

when the prevailing narrative is that no one watches women's sports, and your new women's sports bar is packed for about a month straight, i personally think that is worth celebrating or "spiking the ball and dancing" over lol
@RacketMN
I wish them all the luck and I hope they succeed, but spiking the ball and dancing after a few months is silly, especially in the hospitality business. If they can keep a decent crowd when sports are in the doldrums, they have a fighting chance.
one think i've always loved about minneapolis is the way it *looks*, you know? so i talked to some of the city's most prolific sign painters about their disappearing trade. (fair warning: i'm too nostalgic! too romantic!! it's just paint!!)
while other local publications consulted with lawyers, politicians, and medical professionals about the effects of 5 milligram gummies, your buds at racket decided to just… eat ‘em
the crazy thing about wealthy people is that it's just.... never enough. you already make a million a year, like what hole inside of yourself are you trying to fill
linkedin just reminded me that i've been at

three years this week! not to be dramatic but moving to minneapolis to work for CP is the best decision i've ever made! i hope i'm not fucking it up too much! welp, see ya!
if i had a publication right now i’d introduce a segment called MAYOR WATCH that updates folks on how long it’s been since jacob was seen or heard from
i’ve gathered you all here today to brag about my favorite house DIY to date!! after three-plus years of using this weird space as a junk pile that was hidden behind a crime in stereo banner i turned it into a magical lil bookshelf!!!
the bike bus is so good! it gets kids outside! it fosters autonomy and independence! it’s a weekly demonstration and a call to action that we need infrastructure that prioritizes our most vulnerable users! and it’s very very cute!!!
you can smoke weed openly along 7th street at first ave’s legalized it fest but can’t get a hamm’s at the entry because it’s an all-ages show in here… bizarre energy!
racket isn’t endorsing candidates but i’m happy to tell you how i voted bc the truly objective, opinionless journalist is a falsehood that perpetuates the status quo: NO on 1, YES on 2, YES on 3.
i ranked
@SheilaFTP
#1
and
@kateknuth
#2
and am not ranking frey.
welp, see ya!
lately i’ve noticed a lot of local, independent restaurants—bebe zito, slice brothers, boludo, centro, wrecktangle, and loads more—expanding super, super quickly. so i tried to find out why that’s happening!
Why does MN have 9 near-identical Christian music radio stations? In short: a nonprofit giant that's exploiting FCC loopholes to become a billion-dollar entity.
scoooop: indigenous food lab is opening a restaurant/tea bar/market at midtown global where you'll be able to get some of the same stuff you can find at owamni👀
incredibly,
@RacketMN
is coming up on one full year as a website that exists! that means i'm allowed to do a prompt tweet: what's yr favorite racket story from the last year?
egg on a roll sandwiches:
- super creative, entirely scratch-made
- $6.99-$8.99 each
- fucking delicious, i would eat one every day if i lived in the north loop
i know you can't get people to click on a covid story anymore, but against my better judgement i went long on the pandemic's enduring impact on restaurants
someone stole my beloved, ancient, impossibly loud, barely-running pickup truck out of our driveway last night. if you can keep an eye and ear out that would be nice. feel like pure shit just want her back.
why is the mall of america movie theater not screening oppenheimer??? this is the obvious setting for a barbenheimer experience bc you can shop and drink at the mall in between!!! i feel insane
in 1999, a pair of east coast-bred, LA-based comedy writers working on a show set in texas wrote an extremely minnesota episode about lutefisk. as one of four people who thinks about this a lot in 2019, i tracked those writers down to ask: sorry but what
