It is built in the traditional Kerala style of architecture. The temple is noted for its vibrant mural paintings on the outer walls of the main sanctum sanctorum. Episodes from the Mahabharata are beautifully depicted here. It is one of the 108 well-known Shiva temples in Kerala. In the two tiered round Sree kovil or Sanctum Sanctorum, the Swayambhoo idol of Lord Siva is seen facing west and that of His consort Sree Parvathy facing east. which reflects that the showering blessings in all directions.
