@rbrtwnklr Thank you, I'll take a look. For the first version we are actually using snaps, with an Ubuntu Core base. A major reason being that it can also be used for front end components like WebThings Shell running on touch screen terminals. Another option we considered was balenaOS.

@egekorkan Oh yeah it's all worth reading. They've managed to scale this to tens of millions of users so it's clearly working, and they must have reasons for their decisions. I just think from a standardisation and federation perspective it's maybe not as far along as people might expect.

@lu_zero_ I don't think I have a good enough understanding of the issues with ActivityPub to answer that question, but other people do There was actually joint proposal for Bluesky by Christine Lemmer-Webber and Jay Graber back in 2020

It's cool that this is an open spec but it's not yet very formally specified and I feel like there's a lot of re-inventing of wheels going on. Overall I wish they'd just tried to fix ActivityPub rather than starting from scratch, so we had a single fediverse to rally around.
