Senator Joe Bernal's passing marks the loss of a leader who dedicated his life to serving others. I first learned about Senator Bernal in my Latino Politics class at UT Austin, where his dedication as an educator, soldier, and public servant left a lasting impression. His advocacy for civil rights and education improved countless lives and set a powerful example of what it means to lead with purpose. His legacy will continue to shape and inspire our San Antonio community for years to come.

We had a productive trip to Colombia with the @SAHispanicCC San Antonio Trade Mission, where I sponsored the delegation lunch in Bogotá as a member of SAHCC through Irys Technologies. We explored potential synergies between San Antonio and Colombia with key stakeholders and delegates, including Jockey Ventures, @VisitSanAntonio, UTSA, @AlamoAngelsofSA and others. We also met with Colombia’s Minister of Commerce, Industry, and Tourism, @luiscrh, to discuss opportunities in tourism, fintech, advanced manufacturing, biosciences, and the need for a direct San Antonio-Bogotá flight. A big thank you to SAHCC CEO Luis Rodriguez and Chairman Juan Antonio Flores for their leadership in making this initiative a success.

Today, Team Beto, like so many San Antonians, braved the freezing temperatures to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his enduring legacy. Over 100,000 of us joined the 38th Annual MLK March, walking nearly 3 miles through our historic Eastside under the powerful theme: "We Are the Dream... It Takes All of Us." A special thanks to Dwayne Robinson and the MLK Commission for their unwavering commitment, Bishop Rosa Wilson for organizing the Pre-March service, and all the volunteers whose dedication made this day possible.

The initial vote to deny an affordable housing project with childcare facilities was a mistake. But to justify it by saying those funds would stay in SA when there was no guarantee only makes things worse. Being on council means having tough conversations and voting in ways that help San Antonio’s working-class families. It’s tough to put food on the table and gas in the car when you can’t afford to pay rent.
It's an outcome that housing advocates warned against when four council members blocked an apartment complex on the city's North Side.

Although Councilman John Courage has suspended his mayoral campaign, he remains a model of selfless public service.
