After Elon Musk’s apparent Nazi salute yesterday, I’m sharing my TeaTalk on chironomia (rules about how we use our hands in rhetoric), in which I explain the peculiar origins of that salute. 👇
*** NEW VIDEO *** TeaTalk - A Tea Drinker’s Guide to Rhetoric with Simon Lancaster Device of the day #18 CHIRONOMIA - Hand gestures Ignore any presentations advisers who tells you to keep your hands flat by your side when you speak. You look unnatural, inhuman, as if someone has hoovered your soul out of your backside! In this episode of TeaTalk, we explore the ancient art of Chironomia - how to communicate with our hands, talking without talking. We look at the incredible power of hand gestures to communicate instantly, efficiently and with impact. We explore how hand gestures have formed a crucial part of the language of leadership for thousands of years. When it’s done well, there’s no better way to land your message so it literally gets under people’s skin. How do YOU use your hands when you communicate? Does this give YOU inspiration for how you might be able to inspire, influence and energise others? Let me know in the comments. And if you like these TeaTalk videos, please like, comment or share. Thanks. Enjoy! 😊👍🫖

My hot take on Trump’s inaugural address… Certainly not a conventional inaugural address or unifying speech, especially in terms of its language to the previous administration, but nevertheless a speech that spoke to deep American values and history, with a sense of religious purpose, and a great deal of vision, mission and ambition - not just promising to make King’s dream come true, but even putting a man on Mars. I don’t know about Mars, but a huge crater’s just appeared in Washington. Ladies and Gentlemen, Donald Trump has now entered the building.
