I got told once by a coach that I was too nice 2 my athletes. My athletes ran way, way faster than his did. Consistently. They kept running after HS too & in far greater numbers than his did. They were happy & loved the sport. Kindness is not a weakness. Kindness is f’n hardcore.

I REALLY wish more adults that run would try racing on the TRACK. The Marathon & Half are big deals. Road races are fun! You get a 🏅 & a 🍌& some 🍊 slices & a cut up 🥯 when you finish! So I get it. But try racing an 800m or 1500m on the track & you’ll feel fully alive.

Don’t be an idiot. Severe weather demands you adjust your planned run. Sometimes that can be as simple as adding a hat, gloves or extra layers. Sometimes it means less meters or minutes or less effort. Sometimes it means all of the above & sometimes it means not running at all.

About last night… It was just a flat out incredible show. And @springsteen NEVER stopped. Over 2.5 hours & he NEVER left the stage. It was remarkable. 72 years on the planet & he has enough energy to lift up all 20,000 people at the show and hold us up hours. #pdx #springsteen

Here’s a little XC tip… when you’re going around a tight turn in a pack don’t be on the inside. The outside runners collapse in & you’ll be forced to basically walk. Stay outside & you’ll easily slide past a whole bunch of competitors that never saw this tweet. @runnerspace #NXR

Runners, Want to get better at running without more running? Sleep better. Yup. Just sleep better. (Better sleeping for more hours is even better!) Work on that pre-sleep routine & sleep environment of yours. Sleeping is when U recover best & great recovery leads 2 great running.

The better I got at running the less I won races. I got faster, got into better races & lost more & more. There was almost always somebody crossing the finish line before me. I knew if I wanted to be my best I'd never get to be the best. Remember, losing doesn't make you a loser.

One thing most people that say Sub 4 isn’t a meaningful barrier have in common is that they aren’t coaches. Try telling an athlete 3:59 doesn’t matter anymore or someone that just broke FIVE in the Mile or 2 in the 800 or 9 in the 3K the barrier is nothing but common. Bullshit.

Did an 8 mile run today bc all my favorite ghosts live there along that distance. And an 8 mile run doubles as a time machine for me. It’s OK to run through your past. Just make sure you end back in your present bc that’s the only place you can truly live. #everyrunhasapurpose

Just finished food shopping and once again I can confirm that putting a mask on before you go in a store and then keeping the mask on while you remain in the store and then taking the mask off when you are back in your car is not hard. It’s not hard in the least. #WearAMask

@jasontconnor @nut_history Little boy hit by line drive in face. Jim Rice ran into crowd & carried the kid into dugout so he would get immediate medical attention. Kid was taken to hospital from there & had surgery to relieve pressure on brain. Generally regarded that Rice’s quick decision saved boys life.

Run ✅ Didn’t feel great. But now that I’m sitting down on my adorable butt I can honestly say the run was a straight success. I was sluggish. But the trails were beautiful. My breathing was wonky. But lots of people waved as I ran by. Measure success as many ways as you can .

How fast you run in XC only matters when comparing your time to other runners on the same course. Them there are the facts. Pancake course times vs. nasty course times are not equal. Save your distance PB’s for the track and course PB’s for XC. #XCRes

Going for a run bc a positive stress in life is a badass thing. I highly recommend you go run if you can. Doesn’t matter how long, how far or how fast. What matters is that you go for a run & end it better than you started in some way(s). Let’s all end today a little better.

Carrying athletes sweats is part of the job. Filling cups with water is part of the job. Picking up cups is part of the job. Believing in athletes when they don’t believe in themselves is part of the job. Explaining “why” is part of the job. Knowing all this is part of the job.
