Yesterday, we laid our father Sultan Mel Kuol Akol to rest. He was a true leader, a fighter, and a pillar of our community. From joining Anyanya in 1964 and fighting until the 1972 Peace Agreement, to rejoining the struggle with the SPLA/M in 1983, Sultan dedicated his life to the cause of #SouthSudan. He gave everything he had - even enlisting his own children and contributing food and cattle to support those in the bush. And as a chief in Aweil East County, he championed peace, unity, and community empowerment. Our father instilled in me the values of hard work, perseverance, and patriotism. Everything I am, and all I will become, I owe to him. Rest in peace, Baba.
