Many age appropriate alternatives exist, including two from BH—Ten Thousand Children, about kinder transport, and Roller Coaster Grandma, by Dr Ruth Westheimer about her experience as an orphan of the Holocaust.
Speaking as a synagogue librarian who is sick of antisemitism and the Holocaust being taught incorrectly: PLEASE DON'T TEACH OR RECOMMEND THE BOY IN THE STRIPED PAJAMAS. It's the number one taught Holocaust book. IT SYMPATHIZES WITH THE NAZIS. It is factually inaccurate.
