On a recent trip to Peace Arch Provincial Park, newcomers to BC gathered for a day of connection, exploration, and fun. For many families, it was their first opportunity to experience the beauty of one of BC’s provincial parks. They stood beneath the iconic Peace Arch, engraved with the words “Children of a Common Mother.” This unique cross-border park reflects the spirit of unity and belonging—a sentiment especially meaningful for families starting fresh in a new country. At BC Parks Foundation, we are proud to support these experiences through our Spark Fund, ensuring that nature is a place for everyone to connect, thrive, and feel joy. As we celebrate Black History Month, we recognize the Black communities whose presence and stories enrich our communities and the beauty of our parks and protected places. Together, we can create opportunities for all communities to experience the transformative power of nature. Read more about MOSAIC (@MOSAICBC) and how you can support programs like this:

JUST ANNOUNCED 🚨 The protection of Western Painted Turtles though the largest expansion of Rosebud Lake Regional Park in its 30-year history, expanding the park from 16 hectares to more than 80. That’s five times its current size! This expansion brings much of the lake’s shoreline into the regional park. The shoreline and the upland leading into it are crucial for Western Painted Turtles, which make their home in this part of British Columbia and are the only native freshwater turtle species in BC. “We purchased this land and protected vulnerable nesting sites to give the Western Painted Turtles a better chance of hatching and surviving to adulthood. This announcement reflects our community’s commitment to provide opportunities for people to enjoy BC while conserving the incredible diversity of other species that also live here.” - Andy Day, CEO, BC Parks Foundation Learn more: @environmentca

“We are always thinking about ways that everyone can experience BC’s fabulous parks,” says Aaron Butcher, Discover Trails Coordinator at BC Parks Foundation. “That led us to think ‘if we can’t get them to parks, how can we get parks to them?” Now you can explore BC Parks from your home with our Discover Parks Virtual Tours! Last summer, the Native Bee Society of BC invited nature lovers to BC Parks on a ‘bee-venture’! 🐝 Supported by the Spark Fund, this pilot project took visitors to E.C. Manning, Blanket Creek, and Kokanee Creek Parks, where they helped track the threatened Western Bumble Bee on bee walks and bioblitzes. Observations shared through iNaturalist will help deepen our understanding of these vital pollinators and the wildflowers they forage. With bee BINGO cards in hand, participants learned to identify bees in a fun and accessible way, contributing to community science. A huge thank you to Teck (@TeckResources) for supporting this initiative! Together, we’re creating hands-on ways to connect people with the natural world and our buzzing friends in BC Parks.

“My father spent every moment he could exploring the property, maintaining the land, and gazing out at the ocean and the incredible views. One fond memory I have is camping at Cactus Point, the stunning rocky tip at the property's edge. We were fortunate enough to see a pod of orcas passing by; it was a special moment that epitomizes how unique this place is, and why my father loved it so much.” We’re raising $500,000 to protect this beautiful 372-acre parcel of oceanfront land on Saturna Island.
