Probably will get yelled at by Husker hoops fans for giving any credit to Creighton for anything, but this is a damned hard speech to give to your kids when they just watched a dream die and Mac handled it with class. He doesn’t need my admiration or respect, but he’s got it.
I want to say thank you and to express my gratitude to the South High faculty, current and former players, coaching staff and the South Omaha community in general. It’s been a great ride. Today I begin my new chapter as Head Boys’ coach
@OPSCentralHigh
. Let’s go Eagles! 🦅
Amused by people criticizing FDU Coach Anderson for telling his team, “The more I watch Purdue, the more I think we can beat them. let’s go shock the world.”referencing beating Purdue. Call me an eternal optimist, but if your coach doesn’t believe, how can the players?
Got a chance to attend Alumni weekend yesterday. I was extremely proud watching this TEAM compete! Everyone who stepped on the court (and even those that didn’t) contributed to that win. Great environment & outstanding crowd yesterday!
@CoachHoiberg
@HuskerHoops
As a former Husker, I was proud of the players, coaches and program in beating what I know will be one of the best teams in the country this year on their floor. Keep quieting the naysayers, gentlemen!
@HuskerMBB
today is not about the past. It’s not about the winless streak. It’s about the team: the players, the coaches and executing what I’m sure will be the right game plan. Go get it men!

Big thank you to the Nebraska basketball staff for hosting
@MadeloDeng
on an unofficial visit yesterday. First class facilities, first class coaching staff! And I thought we had it good back in the day (we did, though)!
@OPSCHSBBB
Some coaches’ favorite plays, will never show up on a stat sheet. Diving on the floor for a loose ball, boxing out, setting a pick that frees a teammate for a shot, big guys protecting the paint from drives, taking charges.
#winningplays
I am not a raptors fan, but I do love Kawhi Leonard‘s game and demeanor though. Have never seen him beat his chest, show up an opponent, or talk junk. He just silently kills them.
Great things can be accomplished when a team plays FOR each other and the common goal. Huge win for the players and coaches of
#NebraskaBasketball
last night! Definitely the most together group I’ve seen in Coach Hoiberg’s stint and the results are showing. Well done!
Been meaning to tweet before now. It is a new chapter for me and for Central basketball. We have our eyes on the future, but it is very important to me that we continue to embrace the past and those who have built the tradition. We will strive every day to make u proud.🦅 🦅💜💜
got to witness 2 very different milestones of former players today. The first was witnessing one of our guys getting married which my dad has always called one of the “5 great milestones”. To be present was truly an honor. The second was seeing our guy advance to the NCAA final.
The concept that you are “owed” something for simply showing up is foreign to me. As a ball player, I didn’t want to be “given“ a damn thing. I was prepared to earn every opportunity. Now if I earned it, you’re damn right I wanted it, but I knew I had to earn it first.
“This is for them”
Aguek Arop came to America at the age of four and grew up in Omaha. Now he’s headed to the biggest stage of his career… The national championship.
He had a message for everyone rooting him on from Omaha 👏

proudly last night in the Sarpy County All Star game. He is a great representative of our school and our program. Very proud of him and excited to follow him in his next chapter. 🦅🦅💜💜
As a competitive person, you are always going to want to do your best and perform well. The best teams I’ve ever been a part of, though, had individuals that set aside their quest for personal glory for the sake of winning. Most of those teams became champions in some capacity.
To our South High guys, it is important to set high, but attainable goals in your life. Sometimes you fall short of those lofty goals, but when you give 100% effort, there is dignity and honor in that effort, even when you come up short. Don’t forget that!
Shout out to the parents of our South high players. I am so proud of what they do on the court, but prouder of the young men that they are. Take a bow. Well deserved! It is a pleasure to coach them.
Yesterday, got to witness one of what my dad has always referred to as one of the five major milestones of one’s life. Our 5 seniors graduated from Central. Time to spread your wings and fly, Eagles! Congratulations, gentlemen!
#proudcoach
Didn’t put this in my original tweet, but Coach Anderson and I attended the same BC All Star camp in Rensselaer, IN years ago (36 to be exact). His dad and my dad roomed together at the camp as coaches. He is a damned good coach and has been his WHOLE career, not just this year.
Very proud of our guys

for being named academic all state. It will always be important to me that the “student” in student-athlete comes first. Way to lead gentlemen!
I certainly do not speak for every coach, or any coach for that matter, but if you are a young person looking to learn how to play point guard, I am pretty sure Chris Paul is a role model that most coaches would love to see you follow. 24 assists and one turnover in two games! 😯
@Tresvantstreet
@EStrick20
@coach_GQ
I love it! Hoped they would either get T Lue or Fred. This to me means that the basketball program is now a priority. Not that Moos cares, but he has my support on the hire.
When a coach says “potential”, he sees a winning lottery ticket. For some it’s a big win, for others a lesser win, but without work ethic, good attitude, and academics, the lottery ticket is just a piece of paper.
While winning is very important, as a coach, your former athletes and their career success, family, and values show your impact much more than your win/loss record does.
Most if not all coaches’ proudest moments are when we see our former players go on to life successes. Obviously, we want all that can to go on and play the sport we coach them in at the next level, but furthering your education & continuing your growth is enough.
What a damn shame. On a night like tonight where Nebraska is going blow for blow with the number six team in the country, Pinnacle crowd would be going crazy and helping them along. I still think they’ve got a good shot, but home crowd would have made it a done deal.
@sronspies
I feel the same about Fred. Coach Mac is a quality person and coach. Both are good dudes and I would have no issues with any of my kids playing for either (though I do have Nebraska bias for obvious reasons).
Heard a great stat today. Each time in his career Chris Paul has changed teams, that team’s winning percentage has exceeded the previous year. That dude knows how to win. Easily one of the best point guards in my lifetime.
Saw a funny tweet where a guy called Kawhi Leonard the most boring superstar of all time. Yes, letting your game do the talking is boring. If Boring=championships, I’ll take boring. You be “exciting” and “animated” while you’re taking that L! 😂😂
Good observation from an announcer at SEC tourney yesterday: “there is certainly nothing wrong with celebrating a play, but this young freshman has no expression. It’s kind of like he just expects to make a big play to help his team win.”
#quietconfidence
I have been watching Big 10 hoops my whole life and I have to say, that although this is the best talent on a Nebraska basketball roster that I have seen since the 90s, unfortunately, the league is the best that I think I’ve ever seen it.
#sabalimeanspatience
When I was a younger man, I thought “good work ethic“ was a nice way of saying you didn’t have talent. As I’ve grown older, I’ve come to understand that if you could bottle “good work ethic“ and sell it, you would be a billionaire many times over.
@HuskerHC
@breid40
Al Davis said, “Just win baby!” Coach Nee liked to say “WIT”, “ whatever it takes”. Trey is more than capable of that number. Lead by example young fella…
@skelly54
If I’m not mistaken, this was the year we beat okie st and KU within 10 days of each other and (I think) both were in the top 5 at the time. Good memories!
Beyond Blessed. All glory to the most high🙏 Excited to announce my commitment to Bradley University!! Thank you to all my family, coaches

Very proud! Most guys would have quit a long time ago. He has had a really good year, too. I would take an Aguek Arop on my team every year for the rest of my coaching career and be really good with that.
The Dragons junior, along with third-team pick Alex Wilcoxson, has been a starter since the first game of freshman year.

Absolutely! Pretty sure neither one of us wanted to play or ever did play for a coach who said, “gosh I hope we have a chance“. You have to KNOW you can win to win.

Big loss for the OWH and all of us who enjoy reading you. If I was a basketball publication I would be offering you a job tomorrow. Sadly, I’m not.
I understand analytics, but wonder what the odds are for a win when you are down two possessions with <2 min. & u let the other team “play it out”. Can’t be good! 10-15%?
@BryanC1978
Agree. Most of the crap that gets stirred up comes from fans. Don’t get me wrong, the Creighton game was a focus when I was at Nebraska, but I had no personal animosity toward any of the players ever. Played with at least one or two each summer. Bragging rights is all!
@mjdemarinis
@OPhilrooney
Nah! I will smile the rest of my life thinking about Aguek getting this opportunity. Amazing crescendo to a career for a truly outstanding young man.
