NIO Inc. had a terrible January NIO Inc. is a Chinese carmaker, selling cars under the NIO and Onvo brands. NIO Inc. just had a terrible first month of 2025. Sales of the NIO brand: 7.951 units. In December 2024: 20.610 units. In January 2024: 10.055 units. Sales of the Onvo brand: 5912 units. In December 2024: 10.528. Onvo didn't exist in January 2024. The first full month of sales was October 2024, when it sold 4319 cars. Yes, January is always a low point for car sales in China, but usually not > 50% lower. Chinese New Year was on Jan 29, with festivities on 28-31. That's near the end of the month, so it shouldn't matter that much in the numbers. [comment] What's going wrong? Well, the usual. High pricing. Increased competition. NIO hasn't launched an all-new model since the ET5T in 2023. Most Chinese EV brands sell at least a new model every quarter. Some, like BYD, much more. Deliveries of the ET9 will finally start in March, but that won't be a volume seller with a $90.5K BaaS base price. At Onvo. Hmm. We don't like this: In November 2024, NIO Inc. repeatedly stated Onvo would deliver >10.000 cars in December. Nobody believed it, because Onvo only sold 5082 cars in November, and, as mentioned above, 4319 in October. But! Surprise surprise, Onvo delivered 10.520 cars in December anyway. In January, that dropped down to November levels again. What is going on there..? Besides the odd numbers, Onvo keeps having problems with the swapping station situation. Onvo cars use the existing NIO swapping station network. But Onvo cars can only use swapping stations with standard 3.0 or higher. That was not widely known when Onvo started selling cars, so early buyers found out the hard way (see my many earlier Tweets on this subject). Right now, Onvo owners can use 1754 of the 3106 NIO swapping stations. That is much better than late 2024, but it still means that 1352 stations are not able to support Onvo swaps. At the same time, NIO Inc. is in the process of launching the new Firefly brand, which, will have its own separate battery-swapping network (!). That will cost a lot of money to roll out. At the same time, NIO's sales in Europe remain slow, and the roll out of NIO's swapping station network in Europe is going even slower. NIO needs to get moving fast to turn things around. @Stefan_Hajek Das gleiche gilt für die Religion. Da stört es offenbar kaum jemanden, dass Kinder sogar körperlich verstümmelt werden, ohne es sich ausgesucht zu haben.

@c_schwarzer Total seltsam auch, dass sich die WLTP-Angaben zwischen Australien und Deutschland so unterscheiden. Geht ja eigentlich nur, wenn hier ein anderer Akku drin wäre als da. Der kleinere LFP reicht für die Reichweite nicht.

Was ihr seht: eine coole 3D-Heckleuchte. Was ich sehe: eine dreckige Mulde, die keine Waschstraße erreicht. Hoffentlich ist da keine Kamera. Oder das Auto kommt serienmäßig mit einem Lappen.

In Deutschland ist die Wahrnehmung vielleicht ein wenig verzerrt. Aber weltweit haben die elektrischen Neuzulassungen auch 2024 um 25 Prozent zugelegt.
