So ET is releasing archival interview footage of Tupac, and I came across one he did on the set of Gridlock’d. He was discussing the complexities of being a Gemini and dealing with fame/fortune. Pac named dropped Prince when taking about how passionate Geminis are. 💜
Finally, I got my hands on the vinyl copy of Supernova! A big shoutout to my friend in Japan who sold it to me for a reasonable price. I am eagerly waiting to set the vibe and listen to it this weekend. This is going to be an unforgettable/sentimental experience.
43 Years of ‘Dirty Mind’ is incredible to even mention! Time is passing us by. From May to June of 1980, Prince recorded this raw and bold album that raised the bar in exploring sexuality musically and visually. And he did this all inside of his home studio in Minneapolis, MN!
Not Prince related: TLC obviously has a fashion influence starting with there debut album! But, I stumbled upon pants that are very similar Left Eye’s during the FanMail era. And I thought…
He is one of the sons of Prince and Marvin Gaye combined; a pioneer of a timeless movement; a phenomenal virtuoso; and a soulquarian. Happy Birthday to one my favorite artists of all time, D’Angelo. 💜✨
Prince’s neo-soul collaboration moment with Angie Stone for “U Make My Sun Shine” was the best and extremely underrated! I say this all the time, he was an originator of the movement. 💜✨
Janet is the best for exploring Black female sexuality and made SURE that it reflected that sense of power.
“For me, sex has become a celebration, a joyful part of the creative process.” - Janet Jackson
Remember that time DMX shared a story on Drink Champs about Prince pulling him aside in a Toronto club to talk about ownership? Rest in Beats to a true MC. I cannot believe it has been one year. 💜
New archival footage of Prince being interviewed at the 1970 Minneapolis teachers strike has been discover by WCCO. He was approximately 11 years old in this video. This is exactly why I pursue archival studies! How amazing! 💜
I love how D&P SDE introduces us to sampling MC Nelly Nel (Prince). I caught a cool connection between “Hey U” and Janet Jackson’s “Free Zone” as the two use “Tighten Up” by Archie Bell & The Drells (1968).
This led to some interesting “dot-connecting” moments for me.
Janet released two of her most vulnerable and spiritual albums in October…just days apart. Aside from the visual likeness (red hair and all), The Velvet Rope and Unbreakable are soul sisters in terms of content and themes.
45 years ago on, this day date, Prince made his debut to the world with his first album For You. I remember hearing “Soft and Wet” for the first time on Majic 102.3 (DC stand up!) and just being blown away by the level of funk and Prince’s heavenly falsetto!
"Recognizing a person’s traumatic humiliation one moment and blaming them for it in the next breath requires a stunning cognitive dissonance."
EXACTLY.

My love for Prince trumps everything. All the artwork and creative content I do centered around him is to keep his legacy alive for the youth and push agism out. That has always been the agenda. Giving back to an artist that gave so much of himself to us. 💜

My only comment on this entire Prince and WATW discourse…
Please read the following excerpt from Duane Tudahl’s ‘Prince and the Parade & Sign O’ the Times Era Session 1985 and 1986’:
“Prince was selfish.”
Nah.
Happy 25th Album Anniversary to Prince's first full collection of songs from the vault, Crystal Ball. In addition to the triple-disc, the acoustic album The Truth was also included--and the instrumental album Kamasutra with direct-order editions.
What are your top five songs?
Dear Ms. Betty Davis,
Thank you for everything. The funk. The feminine power. The inspiration. The forwarding thinking. Thank you for being unapologetically YOU.
You will forever be apart of my life’s soundtrack, my journey into womanhood.
May you Rest In Peace. 💜😢🕊
Every time the Estate mentions Prince’s pride in his Blackness, the PR fans get real unhinged. Mute it or lose it because what we will not do is erase his race during BHM…so weird.
Today, we are remembering legend Tupac Shakur on the 27th anniversary of his passing. 💜
It is well known that Pac admired and respected Prince and was a true fan since his teenage years. This hilarious yet endearing interview from his cousin Jamilah paints a perfect picture.
Remember those brief moments with the Purple Rain poster in Trish's (Aaliyah) room from 'Romeo Must Die' (2000)?
I think about it from time to time. I love a good Aaliyah and Prince connection. We only have a couple of those known publicly. 💜

So, I share a birthday with THEE icon, Ms. Janet Jackson. Words can not express how much she means to me! Janet is a major part in the soundtrack of my life’s journey.
I am still mind-blown that will be meeting her in a matter of days.
Happy Birthday, Janet! 💜♉️🥳
Happy album anniversary to the perfectly curated body of Afrofuturstic purpleness we call ‘Art Offical Age.’ This is where it started for me 9 years ago—my first Prince release experience! I'm so happy to have witnessed it in real-time. 💜☁️

Happy Heavenstrong to the architect.
Missing you in physical always and forever. Thank you for letting me explore your bountifully creative odyssey through scholarship.
Forever in my heart, Prince (whom I affectionately refer to as MC Nelly Nel, IYKYK).

I’m a little late but
#3121
was released in 2006 yesterday! One of my favorites from Prince!
P.S. Don’t talk bad about “The Dance” unless you want to argue! Lol! 💜🧡
A thread of Prince at his make-up various stations. Photos speak louder than words sometimes. Today is that day. We miss u, Prince. Five years may be true, but your spirit... eternity. Sending much love to the purple community today.

1. Tupac moved to California in 1988. They were living in straight poverty while staying in Baltimore.
2. Listen to Tupac talking about this in 1993 prior to his signing with DR.
Taking on a Basquiat/Diaz ‘SAMO’ approach, Prince utilized the “tag” style of graffiti during the DM era to personify the sonic grittiness of a series of demos turned album.

Today, the Brooklyn based trio Intro released their debut album, “Intro,” 30 years ago. An underrated R&B gem! I remember hearing “Come Inside” and “Let Me Be the One” for the first time in middle school. RIP to Kenny Greene, the man behind some of your favorite 90s R&B tracks!
