Friendship is a true romance not spoken of enough. There’s not enough poetry about friendship. Everyone wants to write about love and lust. But friendships endures what most other unions can not. Change & time.
I don’t wanna hear ANY genre played for 5 hours straight. Techno, house, jersey, dancehall, etc. None of it. I have no allegiance to any single sound. It’s boring and I’m not intellectualizing purist sets with y’all.
Sorry until Black, queer, and women DJs in general start getting equally acknowledged for their contributions Im going to need them DJing FRONT and centre. Very easy to desire anonymity when you aren’t a part of a community that’s systemically erased from an entire industry lol
Honestly all these tweets about there being too many DJs is so stupid. We live in a capitalist scarcity based hell hole of course people would rather play music & make people dance. NOW whether or not most of y’all are actually good at it is another story lol ☕️
The attempt to digitize everything is a white supremacist foreshadow for a restrictive future that will kill not only the arts, the culture, but the intimacy we need for actual social justice.
Sex is cool but have you ever fantasized about what your art would look like if you didn’t have to constantly manipulate/repackage it into a diluted form of viability because of capitalism? 💦🥵
I love a variety different genres but I’m not going to play any one of them exclusively to be understood by gatekeepers. The hierarchy people create between musical forms lets me know that they don’t understand what music is supposed to do. It’s a cultural synapse. Not a barrier.
If ur an older and more established DJ (or anything), its pretty lame to be critiquing younger people for not having skills but never attempt yourself to mentor someone or share knowledge outside your circle. There’s a word for that lol
Hi cuties, simply putting an acapella on top of a different instrumental is NOT a remix or even an edit… it’s a mashup! It takes MAJOR changes in song arrangement, melody, and drums etc to classify something as a remix ok ? 😘
Other than the illogical fear of looking gay and a deep inability to socialize unless it leads to sex what else do (*most*) straight men bring to the dance floor? Quickly don’t scroll lol.
I’m not after fame, I actually just want the same level of respect as the village entertainer in ancient times who made everyone dance during the solstice fires b4 they realized the earth was round and women weren’t witches lol
If you insist on playing a DJ set front to back from a region of the world you are not from, please get at least a basic familiarity of the past and current history/culture. This extends to any medium where an artist is using an external reference.
Sometimes I listen to y’all’s DJ sets and really wonder if you know (and are in constant awareness and gratitude) of the fact that you would literally not have ONE SONG to play if Black artists did not exist lol
If you want to release music and feel scared just remember that as I type this someone right now is boldly making yet ANOTHER terrible deep house remix of “Rock the Boat” by Aaliyah. You’ll be ok lol ❤️
Don’t care if I’m repeating myself but Caribbean culture is the BACKBONE of Toronto. There would be zerooo distinction and style without the influence. Toronto would literally feel miscellaneous and interchangeable.
Music isn’t just sounds. It’s ideas that influence identity, behaviour and our collective consciousness. So yes imma look at you weird when you only listen to 4 men in an echo chamber all saying the same thing. You can’t be trusted babe lol
I’ll never stop saying it y'all need more dark skin women on ur festival line ups, in ur “collectives”, & featured in your media. Colourism is running AMOK in an industry where most claim 2 be in pursuit of some higher form of art yet can NOT resist platforming the same bodies
Toronto DJs 🫣 Don’t kno when the plot was lost *again* but Caribbean culture is not just up for grabs . I love music from everywhere too but wd never position myself as an authority or be involved in projects that didn’t have members from that community taking the LEAD.

As the spine splintering bold bass melts into lush non binary screaming synths, DJ/ producer (somebody gay lol) takes us on a journey into the world of hard hitting post industrial underground techno.
Can’t romanticize the past 2 much ! BUT moving from the era where people *heard* music before they saw who made it, to now primarily interacting with someone’s image before engaging (and deciding to engage) with what they make has reallly put us in a boring spot culturally 😬
My father is gay and has been absent all my life. The two may seem initially unrelated but I often wonder if as a society we had a more radical understanding of homosexuality I might know him today.
Simple math. Feeling superior to others because of “niche” interests and your taste in music circles back around to making you just as lame as the mainstream culture you aimed to escape.
Thinking about the time both Nike and Adidas were sending me free sneakers and I got too comfy on insta stories and said “Nike is the Beyoncé of sneakers and Adidas is the Michelle lol” and the Adidas rep replied to the story “Michelle really?” I never heard from him again lol
How people treat people that they perceive as having 0 power or visibility is the biggest indicator of their politics or value system. That should be weighed above all else. We need to stop falling for people that maintain strategic proximity with certain figures 4 creditability.
Keep re-realizing that i mistook youth for progressiveness and a lot of the white people around me are growing into the the same conservative/complacent mentality that plagued the generation before them. They just dress cooler lol
Thinking about how I was gonna be like “hunny do you need water 🥺” to that girl bent over the bar at panorama-Berghain before realizing it was a sculpture lol
I never get tired of talking about inequity in music because literally every weekend I hear my friends and peers CASUALLY play jaw dropping sets that I know would SHUT DOWN festival stages. The talent and creativity im surrounded by I really couldn’t shut up if I tried lol.
Me, my friends, and the rest of the queer/ally underground have had the kind of club experiences some of y’all have only seen in movies lol.Epic shit is regular 2 me 🙅🏾♀️ if people don’t dance @ your party do NOT invite me. Im here for collective catharsis not Instagram recap vids
I know how sexism in the music industry works, once y’all see a woman in heels you assume there’s no way she’s actually doing anything musically technical. But never forget…. I’m a producer FIRST and a hot girl second ok? 😘
Got a noise complaint from my landlord stating the neighbours said “it sounds like she’s being tortured in her bedroom”. Lol like just say you’ve never had an orgasm and go lol.
Every time I remember that DJing is really just playing the compositions of others in improvised and unique sequences while using a variety of audio affects I calm down lol.
In a world that makes it so hard to stay true to your convictions and be yourself, me NOT playing Break My Soul when I DJ for the gays is a true act of bravery lol.
U could hate it or you could love it but I still can’t believe my life tumbled towards this moment of putting out my OWN songs. Like the amount that music has completely mystified me. Influenced me. Painted my life with relevance. Bent the mundane into something of interest…
Once you understand that a majority of music traces back to the black diaspora the question stops being about IF an artist is appropriating and more about what work are they doing because of that.
I’ve Taken the biggest Ls and inconveniences publicly and privately but NEVER turned on the front camera to film myself crying and for that reason alone I know I can’t be conquered lol 🫡
My target demographic? Women. If ur a man and u like my music that’s cute lol. But just know I put in the late nights for the girlies 💋 I do it for you sweetheart lol
Lol why do people think publicly declaring that they hate clubbing is a some kind of maturity flex. Like I’m sorry you haven’t had a mind altering transcendent experience at a party yet, maybe one day babe 🥺
Stop asking women producers “did you make this by yourself?” Because I KNOW for fact you do not use that language with your homies and it’s most definitely not the same as asking if there are any features or collabs.
Being an “adult” for most people means expressing or participating in a more sophisticated level of capitalism than a previous era of their lives allowed them to. Almost always people reference the acquisition of more things when trying to prove maturity or growth.
@cookieclean
Lmaooo I hate to break it to y’all but it’s my song!
😭 I’m a DJ and producer, sometimes I do my own vocals and respectfully me and Nicki sound NOTHING alike lol
A lot of cool things have happened to me but my secret, most unfulfilled wish ever since I started djing was to be in a DJ duo or trio with other girls and tour the world together 🥲
I don’t have “self love” figured out. It may not even be as sustaining as ppl make it out to be. However I will say any dream/goal you ever had takes at LEAST liking urself a lil bit lol. If you have an idea you have to think YOU are worth listening to, worth humouring.
Has a friend or a loved one started a local party series and turned into a complete narcissist lol ?
Call 1-800-STOP you may be entitled for compensation.
Yt supremacy, sexism, etc will really make you think that saying less and maintaining likeability even when something is wrong is some sort of high level strategy for success when it will actually wind you up in deep insincerity with yourself and a ocean away from ur true goals.
If rebranding as a PURIST techo DJ is the ONLY pathway to getting on huge festival stages and gaining legitimacy in electronic music— we really have to start asking WHY instead of defaulting to this formula. What is actually being disrupted at that point?
As entertaining as this rap battle is, I also want to point out how highly disturbing it is that men casually expose one another over things like pedophilia, domestic violence and even rape when it involves women and children, but ONLY when we’re fighting. This is a problem.
The longer the pandemic stretches on the less governments try to hide their disregard for people (most of us) living in the economic margins. There’s absolute no safety net for gig workers or people in the service industry yet cities don’t move without us.
Woke up again thinking about how hard people work. How for most 40 hour work weeks will barely secure housing and basic needs. We’ve been indoctrinated with the idea of life long endless labour.
