I am grateful for the
@hubermanlab
podcast. What a resource. We really have gotten to a place where college makes no sense for a decent slice of people. Huberman is like 1000x better than the best college lecture and it's free.
You have to love it... the guy who won the Millionaire Maker on
@DraftKings
is BearDown247. He played Trubisky-Cohen-Robinson-Burton-Bears Def. That is awesome.
In my book, this is the greatest Grand Slam point ever. Djoko-Nadal Aussie 2012 was the greatest Grand Slam final ever. Yesterday was an interesting street fight.
Pick your winner.
@joeingram1
and I ran into Huck Seek after a couple of drinks and we agreed to a race next week. He has to finish a 5k more than one lap ahead of me on a track. Betting 2k.
I admit that I expected some COVID at WSOP. This was based on my experience with viral spread at Commerce Casino and other halls of poker. If vaccination can halt spread in the world's largest poker room, I suspect it will work everywhere. Can't wait to get out there on Tues.
Played a lot of plo cash with Niklas Astedt this summer at Encore. He maintains a calm, funny, happy demeanor in both good sessions and the very worst of sessions. It's remarkable. Love to see that he's chip leader of the wsop main.
Pod 49 with
@Patrik_Antonius
is a sick, sick pod. There are some insane stories contained below (640k golf holes, million dollar boxing props, compromised hands?). The legend lays out his uber-disciplined approach:
Held off on posting this bc I wasn't sure that
@junglemandan
was serious about battle. Don't open at work or w/ children. Pod: . Best part is when jungle describes his life during match w Phil (think Russia training in RockyIV, except in a basement).
Random advice about prediction: Overconfidence is the dominant psychological tendency. Keep prediction ranges very wide. Think about the range of what smart people think might conceivably happen, then expand the range on both ends.
Well, I will say that this is a mandatory podcast if you are interested in learning about the coronavirus. The knowledge of
@Barton_options
on the subject is astonishing. Link:
Lost. Need to watch the video but did exactly what I didn't want to do... went out too fast at 6min first mile. At two miles we were exactly on pace. Then I slowed down and he sped up. Punishing conditions. My throat burned from poor air quality on lap one.

I'm very proud to introduce the new Advanced Sports Analytics website. We offer unique data for daily fantasy sports, updated daily. It's a free site for the time being. Please check it out and let me know what you think.
If you play a poker tournament, is it ethical to have a 15% piece of a player in the same tournament (field size ~60)? I long assumed no, but I think current consensus is yes, and I'm ok with that. If at same table, must you disclose? I think absolutely yes.
This is the Youtube version of my interview with
@EmpireMaker2
on the coronavirus, DFS, and life. The audio version will be up on iTunes and Spotify shortly. Youtube:
I was down 16.5k with 236 hands remaining. The end stage was boring and tournament-like. We decided to quit and scrap the side bet.
@PhilGalfond
keeps the 16.5k, and we start a 10k hand online challenge tomorrow.
The twittersphere def did something to irritate
@NickSchulman
he's got the eye of the tiger right now for sure. Going to be a strange combo of gto and street poker tomorrow
I feel like there is a lack of support for Isreal on social media bc people don't understand the middle east and so are afraid to speak up. I don't understand the middle east well but strongly support Isreal. Do with that what you will.
Pod 29 with
@DougPolkVids
is coming later this week! I'm looking forward to this one. Doug is a machine, fresh off possibly the greatest hu challenge in poker history. Throw some questions in this thread!
Big podcast recording tomorrow. I needed some brutal honesty as I contemplate strategy before the
@PhilGalfond
challenge resumes on Aug 22. I am going to the straightest of all straight shooters,
@junglemandan
.
My take... it's a close race bw these possibilities: 1) saw his cards across the table, 2) played real bad, 3) cheated, 4) misread her own hand. 35-30-20-15 is about how I have it.
Pod 40 with Jared Dillian (
@dailydirtnap
) is out! This was a fun one. Youtube: Apple Pod: . Jared's short take on the Fed is perhaps the most compelling I've heard:
We are firing up Advanced Sports Analytics again. It's going to be sick (and free for the foreseeable future). The plan is to prove the worth of the content during NBA, then maybe paywall in the summer.
Working on a rd 3 pod with Strasser. Weakness always gets attacked; I don't see it as manipulation. The real lesson is that there is no investing any more -- it's all Fed-backed gambling to varying degrees.
Podcast 27 with
@TomDwan
is recorded and will drop in three days! Please subscribe on Apple Podcasts and review if you're feeling especially generous w time. Tom thinks it's the only podcast he's ever done.
Usual scene at immigration coming from bahamas. Asked if I played poker tourn. Said yes. Asked if I had greater than 10k cash. Said no. Was detained for an hour and made flight by seconds.They were ok in the end but I did have brief visions of extortion and bahamian prison.
Can someone explain the tip option on credit card readers at fast food restaurants? I went overnight from being the most generous cash tipper to being shamed at every transaction.
Really enjoyed Podcast
#29
with Doug Polk. His ability to undertake focused work is impressive. This pod is high-level overview of his poker/content life and his recent challenge with Daniel.
And now it is far overvalued. In the context of a live poker hand, it is one of many variables to be considered. Blockers should sway decisions only at the margins.
The concept of blockers is one of the few concepts that didn’t really exist in the old days. I don’t believe anyone in that era thought about poker in terms of combos.
Will watched 50k final table as prep. Initial thoughts: made two read-based plays that were wrong. No regrets there, that is just my game. AcJc final hand... knowingly burned 4-fig $ev going for gold. Would do the same tomorrow.
Shoutout to
@cmain7
who always has the nut content (though i'm not sure he would have approved of gallup capt + cooks). May def and kicker forever be dead in winning lu's.

Fired up for Podcast
#4
! My guest is one of my very favorite commentators on the internet, polymath Ben Hunt
@EpsilonTheory
Stay tuned, dropping in a week or so:
I never dreamed that my seven year old, having beaten Zelda BOTW many months ago, would move on to the worlds of 100% complete, speed-running, and glitch-finding. I'm ready for Zelda BOTW2. If anyone gets their hands on a beta version, hit me up.
Long shot... I'm teaching sports analytics at UMiami. With F1 Miami coming up, the students are extremely keen to do a class on F1 analytics. I know nothing of F1. It's mon wed 8am in Miami, two weeks of class left, lmk if you're capable. Classroom has insanely good AV system
Amazing pod this morning with
@bennpeifert
! If you are interested in markets, give it a listen. Benn is a master and he delivers many gems in this pod. At the end, he gives some detailed views about markets and the volatility complex going forward:
Podcast Episode 2 is up! Interview with Jason Strasser.
@strassa2
is an old school poker legend who graduated to crushing in the real world. Really enjoyed this one.

Sticking to the poker side of things... I've always thought that the way Bonomo slips from gto to the exploitive side of things when the situation calls for it is a thing of beauty. An all time tourney great
