In the last half an hour of #RSCPoster competition, I hope everyone has been able to discover fascinating new areas of research and found intriguing answers to questions unasked. #scicomm doesn’t end at 12, if you want to discuss things further #RSCCat #RSCInorg #chemtwitter

So commences the great #RSCPoster celebration of 2021. Check out our work @CDTSusChem on a fluorine transfer reaction, where we begin the process of harnessing organic fluorine for synthetic transformations, a first step in realising a circular fluorine economy! #RSCCat #RSCInorg

@makoto_B @CDTSusChem I am currently writing a manuscript on that exact thing, so keep your eyes peeled on this space!

@BogdosMichael @CDTSusChem Ah I see, thanks for clarifying. I have never spiked the reaction with a different fluoroarene complex or organic, but that would be intriguing as I am attempting to activated fluoroarenes with similar systems. That gives me a new thing to attempt in the lab today!

@BogdosMichael @CDTSusChem And would you be able to expand on what you mean by observing the reactivity intermolecularly?

@BogdosMichael @CDTSusChem Thanks for your question. Indeed it is, when we attempted to do the same with the non-fluorinated analogue no reactivity was observed. The key is the nucleophilic nature of the distal fluorine coupled with the electrophile being present to attract the fluorine.

@frikkiemalan @Orgmet_ACS Thanks, it was very interesting to work through and discover things throughout the project. The C-F bond activation and transfer was great to work on

@GriceChemistry @CDTSusChem I haven’t made the Cp analogue of the complexes, but it would be intriguing to see differences in reactivity that occurs. The reaction rate is a bit tricky to measure due to the heterogeneous nature of the mixture, but I could imagine some form of reaction monitoring with F MMR

@GriceChemistry @CDTSusChem Hi Kyle, thanks for the question. Yes, in the formation of the active complex, 1, Ag2O abstracts chloride, which increases the acidity of the Cp* proton, and this methyl group then deprotonates with Ag2O. A concerted 1,4-addition occurs forming the cyclonetallated complex

@marcuswdrover @Ringenberg @dfg_public It is very handy. I had previously been working with KBr press, but that is very difficult to move in and out of the glovebox
