@maalbarakati نظرا لكونها استعارة وتتواجد في اكثر من لغة،فدائما يعود بي عقلي لنظرية الاستعارات الذهنية.لا يخفى ارتباط النور المحسوس و الاضاءة في تحسن ووضوح النظر.النظر بدوره مرتبط باستعارة UNDERSTANDING IS SEEING كما في I don’t *see* the problem = لا *ارى*سبب المشكلة. ربما يكون هذا هو السبب.

Although studies tend to show similar/ more vocabulary gains for L2 caption over L1 subtitles (see Albalawi, 2024), beginners appear to favor L1 subtitles because L2 caption is too challenging to them.Recommending L2 caption to beginners might take the fun out of leisure viewing

Paper is published now (open access)
I am glad that my review paper on the role of individual differences in L2 vocabulary was accepted for publication (open access). The review focuses on three key factors: out-of-class exposure, strategic learning and motivation. Will share when it is out.

كتاب عملي من متخصصين في الدافعية صدر قبل شهرين عن الجمعية الامريكية لعلم النفس. الكتاب يفند الكثير من الخرافات عن الدافعية مثل ان تخيل النجاح مفيد ويعالج مواضيع تهم الجميع مثل تعزيز الدافعية الذاتية وكيفية توفر بيئة خصبة لتنمية الدافعية الداخلية (intrinsic motivation) لمن حولك.

Recent vocabulary levels tests (Webb et al., 2017; McLean & Kramer, 2015) are likely to be better vocabulary size tests than the VST or CATSS when used with beginners.This is because these tests have higher sampling rate (+15-20) than the VST or CATSS which reduces overestimation

Paper accepted ✅ “Key issues and considerations in measuring vocabulary growth: A methodological overview” appearing soon in Vocabulary Learning and Instruction (open access) It discusses key issues in vocabulary breadth growth assessment to help advance research in this area
