Once I walked into the McDonald inst and saw him standing in the same position as his iconic portrait hanging there, and got absolutely starstruck. My advisor introduced me but I could mumble only ‘I read everything you wrote’. ‘You must be well-read then’, the legend replied.
Professor Lord Colin Renfrew, former Disney Professor of Archaeology and founding Director of the McDonald Institute for Archaeological Research, has sadly died aged 87. Read the full tribute in honour of Colin, who will be deeply missed.

We kicked off the first cohort meeting for the MSc in Cultural Heritage Futures at @UoE_EFI, and I’m blown away how invested, enthusiastic, and critical the students are. I can’t wait to get nerdy with them about digital preservation. They help me rediscover the joy of teaching.

The DH book I’m supposed to review got a bit wavy in the rain, patiently waiting before my door for me to return from #DHC2024. Too much DH is happening around me, and I clearly can’t keep up🤷♀️

After three days with the UK and partly international DH scene, I’m more confused about the definition of DH than ever, but met amazing people and feel inspired by their work. Enough for me to carry on. See you in two years, when we reconvene to question ourselves again. 2/2

I based it on the distant reading of a historic newspaper archive. This was just the start of my interest in digital humanities. It’s not perfect, but I’d be happy to see someone build on my pilot project and hypothesis. 3/3

The solution is not straightforward. If everyone is in the open office, then claiming a private silent room (if there is one) is super isolating. But staying in the “callcenter” is demanding. I generally choose to ruin my own hearing by daily 8 hours of whitenoise to my ears.3/3
