Sam Nujoma, Namibia’s founding president, has passed away at the age of 95. A revolutionary leader, anti-apartheid activist, and seasoned politician, Nujoma served as Namibia's first president from 1990 to 2005, completing three terms in office. He was a key figure in Namibia's struggle for independence, co-founding the South West Africa People's Organisation (SWAPO) in 1960, which evolved from the Ovambo People's Organisation (OPO). Nujoma played a pivotal role in steering the liberation movement that ultimately led to Namibia's independence from South African rule in 1990. His passing marks the closing chapter of southern Africa's era of iconic liberation leaders, alongside figures such as Dr. Kenneth Kaunda of Zambia, Dr. Kamuzu Banda of Malawi, Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe, Agostinho Neto of Angola, Sir Seretse Khama of Botswana, and Samora Machel of Mozambique. May he rest in peace.
