Ok so he just tweeted it out L4’s may be a joke (or are they?) but execution abstraction + balance abstraction is not Study founders too locked-in to realize it’s April fool’s day

Big announcement time. Over the last year, many of you may have heard me use the term "Balance Abstraction." But what does it do? It lets my grandmother trade shitcoins on an L4 without having to worry about bridges, "solvers", or even what an L4 is. How? A thread (1/18)

Getting users to change their RPC is cumbersome, only provides basic MEV protection and rebates, and limits programmability of MEV by apps. Custom RPCs are not the right form factor for fully expressive intent-centric auctions

Building a new app-specific OFA and bootstrapping a solver network is difficult and time intensive. Each individual OFA has their own fractured solver network at best, and ends up with a centralized cartel of rent-seeking market makers at worst

From backrunning protection and OEV, to swaps and generalized intents, Atlas gives developers the ability to add trust-minimized auctions to their applications while tapping into a unified network of solvers

In order to mitigate MEV and provide better execution to users, we have begun to see applications and wallets adopt both MEV mitigation solutions like private RPCs, and, more recently, intent-centric orderflow auctions

Atlas is a generalized execution abstraction protocol for the EVM But WTF is execution abstraction? Our CEO @ThogardPVP goes indepth on what execution abstraction is, what value it adds to users and applications, and how we uniquely enable it with Atlas

Apps can select any infra provider to act as the relayer of operations depending on their needs. Use relays like BloXroute or Gelato, private mempools on SUAVE or Anoma, or a dMPC network like Lit Or simply use the public Ethereum mempool with no relayer at all. It's up to you

Atlas transactions leverage this “execution abstraction” to remove the need for block builder guarantees of neutrality - Atlas transactions cannot be unbundled, and UserOperations and SolverOperation either execute together or not at all

The Atlas source code is available for you to review on Github. We have a Sepolia testnet deployment at the moment and will be hardening the protocol before an estimated early Q2 deployment to Ethereum Mainnet after Dencun.

Atlas provides a client SDK and immutable EntryPoint contract through which applications and solvers can send EIP-712 signed messages expressing their preferences. UserOperations must be atomically fulfilled by solvers submitting a corresponding SolverOperation

Atlas works with EOAs and smart contract wallets, letting applications serve both userbases with a single metatransaction standard based on EIP-712. It is simple enough to use for basic MEV protection and backrun rebates, yet flexible enough to build fully intent-centric apps

Applications and their users are what generate MEV in the first place. Atlas gives applications back the power to distribute that value in a way that most benefits their users and desired UX, without compromising on decentralization and trust minimization

I'm bullish @monad_xyz for a variety of reasons - it's the best-designed L1 I've ever seen. I'm particularly a fan of the gas escrow system resulting from the separation of tx sequencing and execution. It has very strong anti-spam properties. Watch:

@doganeth_en @gmEthereum Yes, Atlas will work with EOAs and smart accounts. We are working to add smart account support in an upcoming release, but it’s fundamental to the design that Atlas transactions be backwards compatible with EOAs and forwards compatible with SCWs. More on this soon

@yoav As the atomic Atlas transaction is trying to execute, the auctioneer role in-protocol (typically an end user, enabled by the app) ranks and sorts solver bids in a try/catch loop and goes down the list of bids in order until either a solution is found or the transaction reverts

@yoav Execution abstraction essentially gives applications much of the same control over how their app logic is executed without an appchain, and enables application-specific sequencing auctions in a single atomic EVM transaction

@yoav With Atlas, which is just a smart contract application and entrypoint contract not very different from ERC-4337’s, applications define their execution abstraction logic in what we call “Atlas Modules” which expose hooks at all execution lifecycle points
