I say the mind is infinitely more dangerous than guns so unless you're gonna police thought (something that's technically impossible to do btw) policing guns instead of policing crimes will have no significant effect beyond pissing off non-criminal gun owners.

I can't go along with this. By definition it's a fake crime. Misdemeanour at worst. Unless someone was seriously hurt, then faking a crime shouldn't be a felony which is a real crime. It's mischief. Handle it in civil court. Maybe a fine for being a douche, but a record? Nah!
