A day before commencement, the Harvard Corp. has told me I will not be allowed to graduate.
I hope this moment exposes the corporate rot central to institutions like Harvard.
To my peers graduating - remember: 15,000 Gazan kids will never graduate.
🚨BREAKING: The Harvard Corporation has officially voted to WITHHOLD DEGREES from 13 seniors for protesting the genocide in Gaza. This comes after over 1,500 students, 500 faculty and staff members, and 45 student organizations petitioned and fought against the repressive
Took graduation photos a year in advance. (As of last evening, Harvard is withholding mine and
@shraddha_joshi1
's degrees until May of 2025, alongside 10 other graduating seniors.
Look up "Palestine exception to free speech" for more info.)
🚨🚨BREAKING: Harvard has violated its agreement with student protestors. This betrayal will PREVENT 12 STUDENTS FROM GRADUATING and place 28 on probation or suspension.
In the agreement reached to end the HOOP encampment, Garber promised to encourage Ad Boards to follow
In Government of Pakistan logo my suggestion is Jute and Tea should be replaced with Science & Technology and education icons, graphic designers there send me your ideas....
The decision by Harvard to delay degrees for 13 students over Palestine solidarity protest has caused outrage at the university and a mass walkout from its graduation ceremony
Harvard, thank you for showing out. More than a 1000 walked out of the biggest celebration of the year today, in solidarity with Palestine and the suppression of dissent.
Long live the student movement.
Over the last week alone, the Harvard College Pakistan Students Association has raised $15,189 (3.4 million PKR) for flood relief. This has happened in spite of zero institutional support from Harvard – an institution that can mobilize/generate awareness regarding (1/n)
“These double standards exist in Harvard’s community,” [

Spoke about how university repression only strengthens the political resolve of the student movement for

Yesterday's Harvard commencement is a beautiful example of this. They barred 13 students from graduating, and a 1000+ walked out for Palestine.
Over a thousand Harvard students walked out of their commencement ceremony on Thursday after 13 undergraduates were barred from graduating for participating in a Gaza solidarity encampment. One of those barred students,
@asmerasafi
, says students won’t back down.
CHAOS: Mass walkout by anti-Israel students and professors at Harvard. As is common with this group, they have made everything about themselves and have ruined graduation for everyone else.
Heartened by the support from Pakistan these last few days–however, I hope that people extend the same sympathy & vigor to address the plight of minorities & situations in AJK, Balochistan, GB, ex-FATA.
Condemn oppression in Palestine and elsewhere, including your own home.
Why is TLP always behind every mob lynching incident and why hasn't it been banned? These monsters are killing innocent people under the guise of blasphemy but yet they freely operate
BREAKING: Harvard Law School student and Palestinian human rights lawyer Rabea Eghbariah has had his article CENSORED for the second time by Columbia Law Review.
Portrait of Eqbal Ahmed - Just finished rereading 'Confronting Empire', a collection of his interviews with David Barsamian. I wish we did more to celebrate the works of internationalist intellectuals who spoke and fought against authority in many corners of the world.
Was an honour to speak with
@ZarrarKhuhro
sb. and to share my thoughts on how institutional repression demonstrates an exception to Palestine speech, and emboldens student organizers further:
Was an absolute pleasure to have

We've heard the most callous of comments from some of the leading position-holders at this University. These are included but not limited to:
- "If we hold a fundraiser today for Pakistan, we'll have to do one for Bangladesh tomorrow, and Sri Lanka the next day." (3/n)
the conflict in Ukraine, release statements against the movement against Israel Apartheid, but does barely anything to generate awareness/a sense of urgency about an issue that affects upwards of 30 million people. (2/n)
Drawings made while journalling/taking notes. 10-15 minutes each. Haven't had the time or energy these last few months to work on complete art pieces/illustrations and really can't wait to get back to it this summer.
Wish we did more on this side of the border to celebrate the legacy of Bhagat Singh (executed today in 1931) and his comrades. An illustration I made last year - Bhagat Singh with the Simon Commission protests in the background:
I chose not to vote in the US elections, and I do not regret it. He may be a lesser evil for the US, but for everyone else in the world he's the same as any other war-mongering US President. And I wish everyone recognized that.
Today the President spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, reaffirmed his strong support for Israel’s right to defend itself against rocket attacks from Hamas and other terrorist groups in Gaza, and condemned these indiscriminate attacks against Israel.
I didn't realize my gap year was ending until I actually started packing for my flight back today. Feeling so many different emotions all at once. What a weird, weird year this has been. In both good and bad ways.
Things I did in my gap year that I'm proud of, and grateful for (a thread):
- Started an art page (

.umeedwar on Instagram)
- Played music in public/recorded my first original song/posted sound bites online
- Put together a blog ()
Today in twitter discourse: debaters debating if debate is debate-worthy with non-debaters that don't think debating a debate on debating is debate worthy
- "Our goal and mission is intellectual knowledge-production, not to fundraise"
- "Ukraine should be treated as an exception to Harvard advocating for global causes"
Raising $15k at a place like Harvard within a week should not be hard. (4/n)
The Harvard I know would rather give a platform to an Israeli War Criminal, an individual with multiple sexual assault allegations to teach a class at the institution, as opposed to alleviating the suffering of flood victims. It would rather invest in private prisons (6/n)
'It reminds me of words my late friend, the US historian Howard Zinn, spoke at an anti-Vietnam War rally in 1971: “And they’ll say that we are disturbing the peace. There is no peace. What bothers them is that we are disturbing the war.
Our team will continue fundraising regardless of whether or not Harvard gives us a platform. We will continue to engage with people, raise awareness, and do our best to support people back home. But we want the community to question, and hold Harvard accountable. (8/8)
Especially for an institution which claims to be cultivating the global leaders of the future. That claims to be engrossed in the search for 'truth', when it's actively choosing to ignore the suffering of an incredible amount of people. (5/n)
Over the past few weeks, we've seen a horrifying crackdown on pro-Palestinian advocacy on US University campuses – it began with doxxing, student intimidation, death threats, and has now taken a far worse bent: institutional repression. (1/n)
Thinking about the words of Ghassan Kanafani as Harvard faces one of its most intense onslaughts of doxxing, intimidation and harassment. Here's to rejecting occupation and apartheid in the face of everything today.
A drawing from earlier this year.
Do not forget that Lahore is NOT the epicentre of violence in this episode - the repression is always, always worst felt in the peripheries, and precisely because they are treated as peripheries
Made my dad watch Mirzapur. Now he only calls me 'Munna' and keeps lecturing me on 'waphadaari'. I never thought I'd be happy to see a real life incarnation of Kaleen Bhaiyya.
and uphold apartheid. It is a community of people that selectively care about global conflict or catastrophe. It reeks of double standards and hypocrisy. It does not extend the same sympathy to people in our parts of the world. (7/n)
Had a two hour long conversation with Tariq Ali yesterday about all things Pakistan, the left, and global politics more generally. So grateful for the opportunities to be geeking about the things I care for, and that too in the presence of such incredible figures
Does anyone know how I can get access to the Mazdoor Kisan Party's Manifesto/Circulars from the 70s? Working on a research project and would appreciate Ny help/leads! Thank you!
Snippets from my dissertation research on the political thought and ideas of Maulana Abdul Rahim Popalzai, Mufti-e-Azam of the Frontier Province. Known for leading peasant agitations at Ghalla Dher and Hazara, and a follower of Shah Waliullah (1/4)
ADL's vilification of pro-Pal organizers, its role in enabling doxxing, and general Islamophobic/racist sentiment was welcomed at President Garber's office when we were constantly not responded to, denied meetings and refused opportunities to engage in 'civil discourse.'
Rhodes Scholar

My op-ed in the Crimson on Palestine and progressive politics on Harvard's campus (and beyond). Wrote this with great help from Harvard's Palestine Solidarity Committee, whose members continue to inspire me with their incredible advocacy for the cause.
While Harvard protestors replaced the American flag with Palestine, Harvard Jewish students know that Jewish values are American values and American values are a Jewish values! Please watch and support us 🙏

Will be speaking alongside some folks I've looked up to for a very long time on Sunday, 9 PM Pakistan time. Thank you
@KhalqYouth
for all the support!
For all the pro-Israel people telling me to go back to Pakistan: yes, I'd love to go back home to these people!
The massacre in Rafah has shocked the world. The world had never witnessed such scenes before. The US supports Netanyahu, a war criminal and punishes its students for marching for peace. Join us on Sunday, 9 PM for an amazing session with our brilliant panel.
