Weak Governance and Corruption: In many African countries, weak institutions, poor governance, and corruption have made it easier for external powers to manipulate local leaders. Some African leaders, in turn, have been willing to align with foreign powers for personal gain, often at the expense of their people. These leaders may use their influence to secure resources or financial support from foreign governments or corporations in exchange for favorable political decisions or military support. Since the 1980s, Ethiopia has received significant economic aid from Western countries, especially in the areas of humanitarian assistance, development aid, and military support. The West has often conditioned some of this aid on the country's adherence to certain political or economic reforms, which can influence decision-making. For example, aid from the US, the EU, and international organizations has sometimes come with conditions tied to governance issues, human rights, and political stability.

“Land of origin” or 1884? The distortion of the Eritrean history ! Why the world was led to believe the fantasy of Ethiopia ? It’s accurate that the Geez language, which is considered one of the oldest written languages in Africa, developed in what is now Eritrea 🇪🇷. Geez is indeed central to the development of early Christianity in the Horn of Africa. However, over time, it became associated primarily with Ethiopia's Christian identity, and this historical connection was emphasized in Ethiopian national narratives. The port city of Massawa, played a significant role in the early spread of Islam. Massawa was a key port in the Red Sea trade network, and it's often noted that the first migration of Muslims from Mecca to the Horn of Africa (the Hijra) occurred in the 7th century. Adulis, located near modern-day Massawa, was indeed one of the most important cities in the ancient world, acting as a trade hub between the Roman Empire, India, and other parts of Africa. Way before any other kingdom/civilization in the HoA. Then, we have the Berlin Conference (1884-1885) and the subsequent colonial era dramatically reshaped the political landscape of Africa. And this is the point of reference for many Ethiopians.
