if you commit to nothing, you’re distracted by everything
I don’t want the trap of optionality with its lure of short-lived shiny successive beginnings
I want the depth of committed long, full journeys
despite all the AI excitement, going to tech events is still weirdly sterile
you arrive at a large venue, most of the time with so.many.dudes, and just meander around until someone on a stage speaks at you
give us a salon, a host that guides, debate, intrigue, culture,
the serendipity that I feel making forbes 30U30 enterprise tech on my 29th birthday...
so excited for what we have in store

speed coded a slackbot to post daily paper drops with "agents or llms" in it
sharing code here ✨
Super stoked to have
@OpenAI
provide plugin access &
@huggingface
offer compute credits to attendees - make sure to sign up, attendees are notified next week! 🔥
in light of the even number of 3k followers today, formally introducing myself
who am I?
my name’s Ashe, a high octane extroverted engineer 👋
what’s that mean?

to that wonderful state that made art inevitable.
And now, this post is to share that in 2024 we feel excited and lucky to continue Hearth’s next chapter in SF 👇

accuracy high enough = setting user expectations in onboarding with what it can and can’t do + providing a few different feedback mechanisms (good/bad, open ends, user behavior observation)
something I wish I built earlier:
daily slack updates on all the unprocessed candidates in our applicant tracking system 🤖

taking my early morning call to discuss the data flows
Like a lot of other folks working in AI, I have felt a tension between loving the space that I’ve been working in for a decade and feeling swept away by the speed of advancements and the existential questions surrounding our progress.
In an effort to feel more in touch with our

best thing I’ve done as a solo founder is find the smartest (technical & high eq) person I know who has founded a company and pay them as an advisor for a 10-20 min phone call at the start of each day
Congrats to
@pearvc
on Fund IV!! They have supported
@hearthai_co
since day 1, and before that have supported me and so many others in rethinking what's possible and building a better world. The Pear team truly exemplifies long-term relationship-building - cheers to their next 10
Thank you to everyone for the kind words on our Fund IV announcement this week. Today on the blog,
@MarHershenson
takes a moment to look back on the last 10 years of Pear and share why we're excited for the decade ahead.🍐
the irony of building AI agent products this year
is actually that really strong backend engineering - not necessarily agent architectures - are the bottleneck
we don’t talk enough about dedicated processing time and space for acute relational pain
this weekend I flew to miami to spend time with my grandma with parkinsons
my brain has been continuously looping on my memories of her contrasted with the progression of the disease
and
agent infra that we need and don't want to build:
when output is X% variant or when error is hit as a result, I want
1. the output reported to slack channel
2. I comment correct output in slack
3. this corrected output is pulled into the finetuning training set and model is

"If you think of the universe as a vast electrical sea in which you are immersed and from which you are formed, opening to your creativity changes you from something bobbing in that sea to a more fully functioning, more conscious, more cooperative part of that ecosystem."
1/6 During the pandemic and post-election I chatted with a lot of folks about job transitions.
I spent 6 months between full-time roles & felt it was incredibly beneficial. Some thoughts (specific to my tech background) 👇
The AI energy in NYC is escalating rapidly right now and I've been so appreciative of the engineers and VCs supporting this ecosystem. Ping me if you want to be added to a thriving community of NYC AI builders on slack and in person (NY only please!)🤠
some agent interaction ideas we’re thinking about
@hearthai_co
: how do we get to fast + high-quality?
1. agentic products that offer chat, retrieval, and workflows are slowed by at least an LLM routing call
2. with agentic products should come a new era of dynamic UIs per the
We did a LangChain meetup in NYC that
@ashe_cs
was kind enough to help organize, now its our turn to host her in SF!
Really excited to do a panel with Ashe,
@CohereAI
, and a surprise guest TBA next week. Thanks to

for organizing!
Reading “How Women Rise”, and thinking through my work habits of *not* being self-promotional & shifting the attention to others because “If I do an outstanding job people will notice”

thing I’d do differently in my last role is habitually claim my contributions
starting french lessons this week in SF with the aim of injecting more variance into my network ✨
what activities do folks in SF like for network variance?
realizing how I grew up pretty constantly hearing and saying
“I love you”
and as an adult I say it liberally + automatically to my friends
which is really nice
internal demo culture > external testing culture
user interviews have their place, but you can't A/B test your way to good taste
you get there by building a lot, staying grounded, and being super honest

found for me the best thing is to wake up at 5am and not *do* anything
- led light therapy in bed? hell yeah
- aimless walk to touch grass in the park? yup
- meditation next to a candle? mhmm
and then the rest of my day feels so much more creative and expansive and joyful
This rings true to my experience. An added difficulty to progressive tech is that it’s an adversarial environment (dems vs republicans) so detailed white papers aren’t published and techniques specific to the weirdness of political data modeling aren’t shared
wanted to see what I’d look like with bangs and didn’t see any gen AI renderings I liked -
Amazon fake bangs on the other hand are so realistic I’m persuaded to just use these
wondering what other AI experiences might make users run towards the real tactile thing
