How many versions of the famous 'Little Dancer, 14 Years' did Edgar Degas make in his lifetime? Answer: ONE, in wax. After he died in 1917, his heirs made 28 copies in bronze, now in museums around the world. Can these be called true works by Degas?

Denmark colonised Greenland from 1721 to 1953 & collected many artefacts. Then, from 1984 to 2008, it engaged in a process of Utimut (Greenland word for 'return'), & returned 35,000 objects - considered by many a successful repatriation. @DalrympleWill

If you find yourself saying "a lost war and the loss of national treasures has, from time immemorial, brought works of art to new owners", stop & think about it. It's what the Nazis said. 👇 👇👇 (from The Times, 7 Jan 1943, 'Germany and her Loot')

Never seen anything like this: anyone who restitutes a Bakor monolith (many were looted in the 1970s from #Nigeria ) will be offered a *free* facsimile replacement from @FactumFound , to celebrate a new book on the topic. Amazing.

Just finished 'The Collector': the true story of Russian Count Sergei Shchukin who bought great masterpieces of French modern art (Gauguin, Matisse, Picasso etc), only to have his collection nationalised by Lenin in 1918 and eventually forgotten by the Soviets. @yalepress

Spotted... at a Ted Baker fitting room: "Lost Property" decor, featuring stolen art like The Scream, Mona Lisa and Adele Bloch Bauer I (which was apparently "found in the back of a taxi" on 9 June 1954 🤨🤔🙄)

When dealing with #moralrights of artists, I'm always rather proud the shopping mall I loitered around as a teenager features in one of the leading cases: Snow v Eaton Centre (1982, Ontario High Court). The artist had objected to #Xmas ribbons placed around the necks of his geese

It's taken over a decade, but a Nova Scotia First Nation (Mi'kmaw) 🇨🇦 will soon be recovering historical articles from @museumsvictoria in Melbourne 🇦🇺 that had been in storage at the museum for many years.

These smuggled Maori panels were subject to major UK litigation in the 1980s. As of 28 Dec. 2020, a new rule exists in UK/EU prohibiting entry for unlawfully removed cultural goods. A legal sea change? @JonTaylor_BM @MarksLarks @DrEmilineSmith @sauterne

Note to sellers: when offering a Basquiat #NFT at auction (like this one 👇), do not offer "all related IP and #copyright in perpetuity"... Most likely you don't own that in the first place!
