The investment when fighting to make top 4 is easier the quality of the squad is lesser and the quality of incoming player is not as important! We are fighting for a title, the difference makers are less obvious!
The sad thing about the January transfer window is, if we were fighting to make top 4, they definitely would have invested.

@JimmyMcCann73 Jimmy this is a hugely reductive take! Graeme Souness comments on the Premier League but the standard of football in the 80s is significantly lower than now. Some journalists, fans and broadcasters with no pro background have more eloquent opinions on the sport and rightly so!

Striker + winger, if we get Watkins for Ā£60m how much left on that winger? My guess, weāve earmarked Ā£120m + sales for LW and striker. Ā£40m leaves room, Ā£60 doesnāt!

Arsenal are close to the promised land. We are 3-4 signings away from squad perfection. We cannot afford to sign squad filler, or players I need to squint at to see the potential. Arsenal needs difference-makers because we are a world-class team. Our two striker preferences are Alex Isak and Benjamin Sesko. Both play for clubs fighting for Champions League this season. Neither want to sell. Villa offered Arsenal Watkins when Saudi were looking at Boniface and Duran. They needed the cash injection. He was an opportunity that fell through. That'll be that deal done now, no way we go back for a 29.5 yr old in the summer. Arsenal love Semenyo and Nico Williams. Would you really like to roll a dice on Mathys Tel this window and miss out on more proven players? 0 goals in 11 this season, can't break into Bayern. That signing is all hope and a lot of hard work, hence why he's landed at 15th-placed Spurs. Arsenal have 6 games between now and the end of March. All our forwards are playing well now. Ethan has exploded out of nowhere. The only gap we have is a striker because Jesus is out. End of March, Saka rejoins the squad. Kai rotation cover is the only weak point. Our midfield has enough bodies, we'll replace Jorginho with Zubimendi in the summer. We've waited a year for the 6 in Spain. That gamble paid off because of Partey's outrageous form and fitness. We'll have all our defenders back inside the next 2 weeks including Ben White, which will be a huge boost for CL. Oh, we just smashed 5 past Manchester City. So there's no emergency on form. So, in short, if you want substandard options now, you are saying you forgo actual game-changers in the summer. Don't put your name to that type of average thinking.
